RC10B4 Javelin Hybrid Frame
Well i always wanted a all tube b4, but just the logistics of it, and the strength of the really small mount points, will really make it impossible.. so i am doing the next best thing. Its still in the works, ive took my b4 four hours ago, belt sanded the sides of the chassis off to keep the strength, and am building a javelin cage around it. not much to look at right now, and its actually slightly different because my camera died 2 hours ago lol, but its getting there. tommorow will be the upper cage and wing. going to use a aluminum custom wing, also going to make roof panels and screw on front plate.
going to be orange when its done, and hopefully will look sweet. it is completely bolt on, and can be removed with 6 Screws.
never could afford a real javelin, so i figured i would make one lol.. this is gonna be a complete runner

Re: RC10B4 Javelin Hybrid Frame
Great work! Are you going to build a full cage...with the cockpit set back a little farther than the B4 body? That should look sweet.

Re: RC10B4 Javelin Hybrid Frame
made the upper cage tonight, welded on some 4-40 nuts to hold the wing in place.. going to cut the side rails with 3 holes later tonight or tommorow. going to add some more rear reinforcement, but im not sure how lol

Re: RC10B4 Javelin Hybrid Frame
That roll cage/frame is awesome. What are you using for a template? How many hours have you put into it so far? Did you notice any weakening or additional flex in the chassis with the sides sanded off? Sorry for all the questions...just think your projects very cool looking!

Re: RC10B4 Javelin Hybrid Frame
hey matt. my template was 3 printed pictures from tamiyaclub lol. ive put about 4 real hours into it so far, and thats with a few cigarette breaks and meals and such lol. with the sides sanded off, honestly there is no real noticeable flex or weakening that i can "feel". i did use the plastic chassis rather than graphite because the plastic is more forgiving and i feel stronger. (ive broken 3-4 graphite chassis while racing, NEVER broke a plastic one)
the car is actually almost done.. i bought some sheet plate steel from home depot to cut the side rails, and once i get some scroll saw metal blades tonight to cut them, it will really be done.

Re: RC10B4 Javelin Hybrid Frame
been there before, that is a great site, i didnt have much of a problem designing it, biggest challenge was fitting it to a b4 chassis lol. that was fun. it does actually bolt on with only 6 screws, and only 2 of the holes are ones that need to be custom drilled

Re: RC10B4 Javelin Hybrid Frame
the cage should really help to restore the orignal torsional stiffnes also

Re: RC10B4 Javelin Hybrid Frame
it actually does.. it really feels quite solid, and once i mount the side rails, which will be bolted to the chassis, it should help alot too. i actually already made the roof and front panel from aluminum, just waiting on the side rails which are tonight

Very nice cage.Cant wait to see more pics! I would be interested in knowing what you would need to build another one if you were up for it.Again, real nice job.
