thanks for pointing that out, woulda missed it lol. im probably not going to use that clear clutch cover either, its a bit "loose" and doesnt seem to cover properly, the regular cover fits like a glove

The clear cover is for use with the slipper clutch. Are you not going to use that?

EDIT: oh right, you got the smaller pitch spur and pinion now, so the slipper clutch is not used.

Tip: put a thin washer on the spur shaft: with a hole just too small to slip over the thicker part, then put the gear cover and again a spacer, then the clip.
If your seal starts thinning you can add more spacers between the clip and cover. The inside spacer will make sure you don't press the cover against the bearing surface

im actually using the ot74 optima slipper clutch, or maybe it was a ot76 i forget, pretty simple yet works well surprisingly.

i tryed some spacers and washers similiarly to the way you mentioned, but i am still a little loose on the motor side.

im gonna try and repro a few lexan gear covers for it, maybe to give it a airtight sealing, going to work on a mold that will seal the edges right along the edge of the motor plate, similiar to the rc10 cover.

That tip was meant for the black cover ;)

If you do new covers: rather than trying for an exact fit around the motorplate: make it a tad bigger so you can run some soft insulation on the inside.

I'm using the same slipper setup on my Ultima, works flawlessly. The only problem I encountered was the outer ball bearing self ejecting from time to time since the Optima slipper shaft doesn't have e ring groove to keep it from falling like in the Ultima. I used a bit of a crude solution- I installed a scrap piece of lexan on the outside that keeps the bearing in place, but if you have access to a lathe a better looking solution would be to cut a groove for the e ring.

Ok, unless I'm crazy...and it's highly possible I am...I swear my optima slipper has a groove. I know there are several versions in regards to the way they are adjusted. Some have a reverse-threaded nut, while others have a reverse-threaded screw.

Sorry but      if the screw is reverse threaded it will also only take a reverse threaded nut
Guess it's very early in Richie land

I know what you mean about the different versions, I have two more slippers besides the one installed in my Ultima and one has a reverse nut for adjusting while the other has a reverse screw, so different versions were available, but I never noticed one with the e ring groove.
These slippers were made for the Optima, probably before Kyosho started designing the Ultima, so they didn't have that e ring groove, but who knows, maybe later batches were produced to be able to fit the Ultima as well?

Well, it doesn't have a groove. I just checked and "duh" I'm using it on my Optima which holds onto the bearing differently than the Ultima transmission.

Could you illustrate what you mean with some pics?
I never knew there was any difference to the outside gearing between an optima and ultima.

the 2 slippers i have really dont have enough meat to support the eclip that should be there. i was either going to drill and tap a hole on the outside of the shaft for a screw/washer, or use a peice of lexan/whatever like snake to keep the bearing in.

Could you guys post up some pics of what you're all talking about???

I think there's some confusion on the spur bearings and slipper clutch, well, at least on my side.

I've never looked at the slipper clutch in detail and don't have one, so please teach me something new ;)

this is the only style ive see, it doesnt have any way to hold the outer bearing
i was going to drill and tap a screw and washer in the end.
