Re: Ultima Buildup
i hope i make ultima owners proud at the nationals too, but i will probably get whooped by losi XX's lol... hell those cars are competitive today and can easily beat a B4 driver/xxx-cr drive. i still remember the exact XX setups and tricks lol.. too bad i sold them on ebay lol.
im going to make that front hinge pin mod tonight...
does this steering assembly look right?

i will probably need the servo saver parts.. if anyone has a second and can take a look at tamiya/kyosho alloy steering on ebay and put me in the right direction that would be awesome!

Re: Ultima Buildup
Nice work on those wings but better to keep those for shelfers: for racing the lexan stough will recover better from crashes.
One more mod you defintely should make is to replace the bearings in the spur by flanged ones. that will keep the spur form moving back and forth over the axle and rubbing the cover or motor plate. Use a tiny spacer between the axle and motoerplate if you see the back of the spur rubbing the second gear.
You don't have to win to make us proud, as long as you get ti respected i'm happy

Re: Ultima Buildup
mounted
for the $1.79 the aluminum sheet cost me, its not a big deal lol.
its actually pretty thick aluminum, they have held up in the past in crashes

Re: Ultima Buildup
Not a very good light condition, but it will have to do: here's a picture of an alu-look lexan wing I plan to mount on my ghostrider.
The chrome paint of LRP is really great in comparison to the old chrome paints that we used over 10 years ago.
(Very scratch sensitive , so a good backing layer is put on this one)

Great looking buggy...I am still trying to get mine together.
Speaking of shiny wings, you guys remember bitd Kyosho released an optional lexan wing with chrome coating?

Re: Ultima Buildup
Any chance you could make a rollcage so it wont'need the original body at all; javelin style?
With some creativity and transverse mounting of the pack you can keep everyting under the topdeck. A flat piece of lexan and driver figure could cover the holes in the topdeck.
(With small electronics hidden under the driver, and a hinging rollcage, or even rollcage and topdeck, you could still get the battery lengthwise too
)
I surely would be up for a copy.
I'm waiting for your rc10 tuber chassis, but an ultima tuber would fit much better on the spare parts plan

Re: Ultima Buildup
If you got the molds for the rc10 tuber nearly ready, it should not be too difficult to make fitting bottom plates that hold the ultima bulheads, steering posts and gearbox instead of the rc10 ones. Hell, you could even drill it for stealth conversion: I've seen one long ago.mikedealer wrote:i will work on one now that im more familiar with the layout and needs of a ultima.. i think i can make a complete tuber to look like a javelin/ultima.
Keeping the main layout would save you a lot of work and the longer wheelbase would definitely help to improve the performance, as would the length mounted pack offcourse.
Bit late since you seem to go for the ZX-5 steering now, but anyway: using the st-15 steering was a good call. The built-in servo saver is far better and more reliable than the original ultima one. I use it on my ghostrider also.

Re: Ultima Buildup
ya the st15 is nice, my main problem right now is the battery.. i just bought all the lazer steering parts from kyosho (along with some UM3 Gear cases and UM5 shafts and other parts they had surprisingly), and hopefully will make it fit. bought a brushless futaba servo, i guess when it comes ill see what im up against in terms of mounting..
once i get this car off my bench, im gonna start tubing lol

Re: Ultima Buildup
just looking at lipos now.. most are 5.4" or about 135mm, im too lazy to go back outside but with a dummy servo, i had a little over 5" inches... lets hope i measured wrong..
anyone have any suggestions for "smaller sized" lipos, not the saddle packs lol..
im hoping a normal pack will fit... guess it could fit "over" the hinge pin part on the bulkhead and sit raised?
