Re: Ultima Buildup
Mike, as usual your stuff is visually stunning. One questions are the shiny bits polished or other? In a couple of those pictures I thought you had dual shocks then I realized it was the reflection or at least I think it was.

Re: Ultima Buildup
Nice work Mike. Forgive me if it seems like Im hijacking your thread but I wanted to share my Ultima with you.
I had previously done mine a similar way. Infact I think these cars look stunning when done right. I was in a hurry to do mine so never got around to polishing mine - perhaps one day.
I have the same front arms, gear cover and even managed to find a MIP 48dp ball diff conversion set
. These cars are just awesome! I run my Lipo down the centre of the chassis and got the Lazer ZXR front steering set up so I can use a smaller steering servo which runs side ways rather than length ways allowing room for the battery.
I gave mine a quick run at the St Ives track with RETRO and the boys recently.

I cant believe i was considering selling mine recently...
Also if you ever consider selling one of those radio plates please let me know-

Re: Ultima Buildup
beautiful car, i have had it under my favorites under tamiyaclub for a while and saw it originally on this forum, awesome job.
the radio plate i made from 3mm carbon fiber. i found a guy that sells 9x12 sheets for $19.99. i used a scroll saw to cut it out, and a dremel tool to finish it off. its not perfect, but 95% perfect, i could do it better but i did it quick last night lol. if ya want one let me know.. If u wanna dremel out and cut the inside, and drill the holes, i can cut and shape the chassis perfectly inexpensively, the dremeling of the inside was the hardest part lol.

Re: Ultima Buildup
That carbon fiber plate really sets off the build Mike. I never realized how great an Ultima can look (and realistic too)! It kind of looks like an HPI 5b.

Re: Ultima Buildup
thanks man, once i repro the bodies (hopefully tommorow) and make a wing (definetly tommorow lol), it should look sweet. Going to paint 2 bodies, one in mirror chrome, one in a "real flame" technique.
personally i think they based the HPI baja off these cars, the roll cage is exactly the same angle, and the roof plate if you look at it is DAMN close lol

Re: Ultima Buildup
Hey Mike,
The steering was easier to install than I thought . Infact Im sure the ZXR parts go straight on to the Ultima alloy shafts bolted to the chassis. No need to drill more holes or anything
The reason I used it was i had a spare set up lying around and wanted to run the servo sideways to give the battery more room inside the chassis. It works great too.

Re: Ultima Buildup
Looking good Mike,
Jason I didn't know you went down the centerline battery lane. Well done.
I'm sure you have both seen my ultima racer before, so I'm not gone post it again here.
Instead I thought I'd share this little image I stole from yahoo actions: maybe inspiring for a custom project in the future: PS the resemblance with the HPI is easy enough to explain: it is the same guy that did both cars design.

Re: Ultima Buildup
I just went out to take some pics for my 44b ultima thread, but I guess I can post the belcrank stuff here: these are tamiya hop-ups for 1 of their touringcars. Fit right on the standard shaft with 8x5mm bearings. Mike, 2 mods I can recommend strongly for the standard chassis ultima: flip the front arms for a longer wheelbase, and brace the hingepins in the front.bormac wrote:Go on Erik, post up some more pics of your Ultima!
I hope you 'll make Jason and me proud at the nationals
