Pictures of my 10L restoration
hello All,
I wanted to post some pictures of my graphite 10L that I recently picked up from ebay.
It was very dirty and the front suspension components were dyed black. The wheels and tires were totally shot and the shock needed to be rebuilt. Even though it was a mess, overall, the car was in very good condition.
I cleaned up all of the parts, polished up the rear hubs I added the following new parts:
Complete front suspension
TRC wheels & tires
Technacraft turnbuckles
RPM rod ends
Robinson spur gear
Front bumper (I have it somewhere...I just need to find it)
I'm very happy with the results. I was originally going to sell the car, but I've been having second thoughts.
Regards,
highwayracer

It's beautiful! Gotta find you 4 nice white RC10 ball cups for that thing to be perfect.
I wish I hadn't sold mine this past fall.

Wow! Nice... How many parts did you keep on the cleaned up one from the old one? It all looks new.

It took me so long to decide to go with the RPMs. I have the original white ends (new), but the Technacraft's were too short

Actually, the only things I replaced were the front end (all black), wheels/tires, front bumper (when I find it) and spur gear. Everything else was really dirty and just needed a good cleaning.
The rear HPI wheels will be dyed black and I'll mount new foams to match the HPI fronts that I already have. The front suspension will be cleaned up and used on my Kyosho Rampage on-road conversion. So, I guess I'll be able to recycle mostly everything.

Re: Pictures of my 10L restoration
Congrats on your restoration, I have been working on an 10L also but have gone a different direction from yours. I installed the new front suspension and all new graphite. I don't have any white on mine so the purists might not like it. Also found a Tecnacraft Aero-trac rear venturi tunnel and installed that. The kit comes with special blue anodized aluminum side bulkheads. Because of the blue I decided to put more blue hardware so definitely not an original. I have lots of new parts if you need any and have several places that have the old stuff in dusty boxes so let me know. I have NIP front bumper just like the one in first picture above if you need one. Great job, keep up with the pics maybe I'll run the gauntlet one of these days and show mine.

Sweet!
What's the deal with the steering blocks? Sunken springs, axle grubscrews, threaded axles... Looks very trick and stealthy.
I've accumulated several sets of (5-40) threaded front axles, but have never found out who made them. I know the Bolink Legend cars used them, but I've got some 1/12th stuff that very much predates that.

Re: Pictures of my 10L restoration
Ahhh...the steering blocks. Good eye!!
The steering blocks came with a Duratrax pan car conversion for the Kyosho Rampage. There was a local racer that modified his Associated blocks using the same method. What I really like is the countersunk portion which allows the spring to be centered on the block.
The axles were laying around in my tool box for about 20 years and were spare aftermarket parts from my original 10L. I put them on because I didn't want to mess with the standard e-clip setup. They have a 1/8th inch diameter, but use a 4-40 thread. Bolink liked the 5-40 stuff...so these axles were probably a Bud's (BRP) product.

Re: Pictures of my 10L restoration
hello bigmd,
I'm not using this car currently...it's on my shelf and it will probably stay there. The wheels are the standard TRC mesh wheels from years ago. I'm not sure if that style is still avilable. The turnbuclkes are about 2 inches long and I used the extended RPM ball cups to make up the length. As for the parts, they were just really dirty. An old tooth brush with some dish washing soap is all I used. I polished the rear hubs and motor mount to give it a finished look.

Re: Pictures of my 10L restoration
I still have the Jaguar GTP body that I use to race with back in 89-90. It doesn't look that great anymore, so I'd like to get an andy's Jaguar to replace it with.bigmd wrote:did you ever put a body on it?

Re: Pictures of my 10L restoration
Do the threaded axles look like these? Bud Bartos' BRP #5520 Super Machine Front End. 4-40 thread.
When I showed Bud my new set and jokingly asked him how much faster they would make my car, he immediately grinned and said “$4.95 faster!” Bada bing!
