Looking at the pictures of the his 1985 championship RC10, it always seemed to me that it was in kind of rough condition compared to how later championship buggies looked. That makes me feel like a Halsey tribute buggy should be less of a shelter.

I've been collecting parts for a few years (started before the re-re 40th buggy), with reasonably priced front tires and wheels being the harder thing to find. I did find some though. Not the right model of tire, but with enough similarities to give the right impression because #1 I'm not committed to exact details here, and #2 I'm a cheapskate

Getting together a good 6 gear for this kicked off my build plans. That was taken care of here:

Next was giving some new purpose to a tired old chassis. Just a little off the sides (plus a few sloppy razor marks from the Dremel)

Then it was time to bless it with some holeyness. That started with a 44 hole drill template.

Tape it down with double sided tape, and start center drilling the hole locations.

Time to bring in the big gun 1/2" drill bit. Needed to change the drill press belts to the lowest speed pulley positions for this big cutter so its not skating and chattering while making holes.

Template removed and time to debur the holes to remove the sharp edges.

Now on goes the gearbox. The motor plate trim isn't Halsey style, but it still felt appropriate.

It was a pretty good cheese grater before I deburred the holes.

Have you weighed it compared to a standard tub?

I don't have another A stamp pan sitting unbuilt, but I compared it to a C stamp pan.

The holey A pan: 129 g
The C pan: 165 g

I decided I should do something to prevent everything from filling up the pan with debris, so I added a lexan liner inside the chassis.

I've got some JRC titanium turnbuckles that mostly match a short arm RC10. Instead of long ball studs and nuts for the rear suspension, I'm using ball links.

The build then started taking shape. I cleaned and hydrated the parts, but no whitening. Natural discoloration is fine for this one. I hit a stopping point though. I can't find my stash of nose plates. Either I used them all, or I did a great job reorganizing a few weeks ago. I should have left them with my wiring supplies and connectors.

I expect lots of holes in the nose plate when you find it

That's always the way, you know where everything is when it's scattered all over the place but as soon as you clean up you can't find anything.
