Dig out your big pins and ribs and come join us for vintage race on a loose dirt track. A lot of people have been asking for a race on this kind of surface, and we were in a position to make it happen before the normal hard packed layout goes in for the season.

Rules:
2wd - 1997 cutoff (RC10B3, Losi XX or older). Rear motor only. 17.5 blinky.

Stadium truck - 1997 cutoff (RC10T3, Losi XX-T and older). Rear motor only. 17.5 blinky.

4wd - Any Vonats legal 4wd buggy from both 4wd and classic 4wd classes (Losi XX-4, Kyosho Optima, etc.). 13.5 blinky.

2wd Y2K - Any rear motor buggy from 2000-present (RC10B4, RB10, Losi XXX,..). 17.5 blinky.

** AMBrc, MRT, or Mylaps 2 wire transponders ONLY. Mylaps 3 wire transponders WILL NOT WORK. **

It's not being changed for this event specifically. It's more like we get to run on the surface before it gets packed down for the season. Either way, we get a loose dirt race and it should be good fun.

Booked my Hotel a few days ago. Now need to figure out tires.

So what's everyone's goto for actual dirt tires for buggies and trucks?

Jconcepts is coming out with a 2.2 Step Pin style buggy and truck tire in dirt compounds. Hopefully available before the race. I plan on running those with ribs up front.

It's hard to know what will work. But we'll have a better Idea for next year.

I'm not holding my breath for those tires. Goosebumps have a quite similar tread depth and style anyway...

will probably end up using kyosho tires after I found I can stretch them onto my 2.2 wheels. I'll probably do a little testing at my lhs's 1/8scale track that hasn't been touched over the winter for traction testing. Not an apples to apples test but it'll at least give me some kinda feedback.

You can still kinda find them, but Goosebumps are discontinued.

Bah. Go figure. I have a few sets with low or zero use, so thankfully I'm all set. I may buy some step pins if they come out in time anyway, because who knows for how long they'll be available.

I'm planning on mounting JConcepts Drop Steps front and rear for our team's tires in Y2K buggy.

Pink is a soft-ish turf compound. Maybe if it's warm enough, that will be okay...?

Another thing I'm thinking about, do I attempt to ironman all 4 classes? how stacked are the heats going to be? What's the Pit and Power situation?

going to be honest I have a pair of drop steps and they feel pretty firm. might still work though. It'll almost be like running period tires before we had super soft compounds and foam inserts. I also have some Schumacher CAT tyres that may work, really chunky blocks, but it's in yellow compound so a bit firm. I have a feeling I'll be bringing a lot of random tires with me to test lol.

Mounted some tires to my test vehicle. Not sure if I'll actually use this NIX91 at the race but its a good platform to test tires on.

I'm not sure why you guys want a soft compound tire for a loose packed, loam surface. Soft tires are to conform around small irregularities of a smoother, harder surface to get grip. On a loose packed, loam surface the pins need to penetrate and push against the dirt.

On an extreme end, think about how useless having a super soft compound would be with paddle tires in sand - the paddles would fold over and you would have less acceleration.

It all depends on temperature, loam depth, etc. A hard pin is not uniformly the answer to a loamy surface.
