I'm just playing. I agree, we should take care of ourselves. Maybe if we start a support group we can help each other get into the swing of things.mrlexan wrote:It is only cause it is something that I am passoniate about.
My name is Halgar, and I'm, I'm ... Maybe someone else should go first?

Re: along came a spider...................
Geez scr8p, I saw this thread when it was begining. What a bad streak. I hope you're doing better now.
As for getting old, yep exersise and diet are key. My diet is still not very good, but now that I moved I'm riding my bike 8 miles each way to and from work. That's over 75 miles of riding every week, up and down hills and through the city, just to get to work. Not including my leisure rides. I must say I feel like I'm in the best shape I've been in for 10 years, and I'm only two weeks into this routine. I never really felt bad, but now I actually feel great. Just walking down the street, I feel like I have better posture from it. I know, it doesn't make sense, but things are just better.

Re: along came a spider...................
I step away from the computer for 3 weeks and you old farts start falling apart. Man, I tell ya.
Well, like Halgar said, I have a great plan. Never try, never fail. I suffer no disappointment.
The down side, I did not really step away from my computer 3 weeks ago. I fell backwards in the computer chair and they just finally got me back up yesterday
I'm going to take Jay's advice and ride the hell out of my bike this summer. I'm building a trailer so I can pull my canoe to the lake. Once there (3miles), I'll load the bike in the canoe, paddle up the lake to the main road (3miles) then ride on home (1mile).

17nut, that is fricking nasty! I had some stitches put in my chest two weeks ago to remove a mole...... it was no where near as ugly as that.

Re: along came a spider...................
i know LOL when i woke up and saw it i thought for sure Stevie Wonder stiched me up!! they took the sutra's and it looks 120% better. Thank god the worst part was going back to work with the rock still in my legg. All of my co workers were questioning my toughness to put it nicely! (come on its only 4 stiches!). That rock also saw pearl jam in Camden NJ a couple of weeks ago!!mrlexan wrote:17nut, that is fricking nasty! Wouldn't it be a lot easier to put the bike in the back of the truck, hook the truck to the Bayliner, ride the Bayliner around the lake, and drive back home? How are you supposed to hold your beer and cigarette on a bicycle?Tadracket wrote: I'm going to take Jay's advice and ride the hell out of my bike this summer. I have a beer hat for the brewski and I quit smoking while cycling after I hit that bus load of nuns back in '87 while trying to light a Lucky Strike. Ah to be 14 again.

Tadracket, I am jelous. That sounds awesome. I haven't been in a canoe since I was a teenager in Boy Scouts.
As for drinking and biking. I don't recommend it. I had about 3 beers and *attempted* a simple kick-out on my BMX cruiser that was equiped with Crupi Pro Round pedals. This was the result:
I definitely should have gotten stitches. But, I didn't. It bled for over 2 days, then it oozed clear stuff for 4 days after that. This was back in 2005. When I moved two weeks ago, I managed to scrape it, and get it to bleed a bit again because the skin on the scar is still kinda thin.

Re: along came a spider...................
Back about 25 years ago I bought a brand new set of bear traps for my gt bmx and saw a quick accident like that while someone was out showin off in parachute pants. The blood looked alot like that but with ripped parachute material stuck to it
. I changed them out that night at the track and traded them for a set of graphites. After that night and lookin at these pix I think with my 'grace' that I made the right decision
.
