Introduce myself and my FRUSTRATING RC10 problem

Post by rc10absuer »

Hello all, I am Josh and I rebuilt a 1984 rc10 gold pan a few weeks ago, but I didn't run it before tear down and rebuild.

For or the last week I've been trying to get it running. It has the original 6 gear transmission, and it HAS EATEN 3 OF MY MOTORS!!! The trans is rebuilt and turns super easy and super smooth, It has a 32p spur, and a 54t pinion and I've tried every pinion from 12-17t. It runs fine for about 2 minutes and the motor is cool and then out of nowhere the motor has smoke bellowing out of it and hardly moves now. There is no binding or play anywhere in the drive train.

Today I almost threw it at the wall when it ate a brand new speed gems pro motor!!! I've tried adjusting the slipper every way possible, I EVEN SWAPPED TRANNIES, but it still makes motors hott. I'm at wits end, can somebody please help me out before i smash this beauty. Thanks Josh

EDIT: Heres some pics, shes cursed i tell you. I got ripped on ebay!!! but i love the pan so i'm happy, and after weeks of work it has come out quite nice. I have a few more parts to find before shes done.

hmm............ there's got to be some kind of binding issue going on. going from the pics you just posted, try moving the bottoms of your rear shocks farther out on the arms. the arms look to be hanging pretty low where they are now, and the dogbones are at a real hard angle.

with both trannys rolling smooth, how are the rear hubs, with the tranny out do both rear wheels spin freely?

Is it possible that the gear mesh between the pinion and the spur is too tight? Use a strip of paper between the pinion and spur to get the correct mesh....there should be a little play.

Good luck......I hope it's something simple.

I think it was the dogbone angle, i swapped to a lower position and it seems to roll alot better, more like my newer models. I would have never guessed that, this is my first rc10. I wish i would have registered for this forum a week ago before this old gold thing cost me all those motors. This car has been cursed since i got it,

seller ripped me off bigtime,

heres the ebay ad,
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=250256094028

heres what i got

Image

He stole all of the original white nylon parts off the front, he stole the tierods, the bumper, the sway bar, and sent me that in a tiny box not even wrapped up!!!!

hes got other stuff on ebay right now, be very very very very very wary of this seller, can you believe he sent me that, i tried contacting him for 10 days and he ignored me, and i finally filed a dispute with paypal and he finally contacted me and called me a liar. It's just sad that people are like this.

I guess he needed the parts to complete his $300 gold pan that's on ebay right now.

It would suck if someone were to use the BIN, not pay and leave negative feedback for him.

i kinda did that already  , he was auctioning all the parts of that he stole from my car, and a bunch of other stuff, so i made another account and waited right before they all ended and bought them all and left him 7 negative feedbacks, the account was frozen a week later, but it made him mad enough to email me back finally, calling me a liar and saying i was childish for screening his auctions. :P
