I remember that for the X1C, the setting of the wifi did not require the phone app : it was possible to set on the touch pannel.
Not sure how it is on the P1S/P1P, though...
But clearly, this is an issue I can understand. And I confirm that once set, you should normally have no need for Bambu Handy app, because everything can be done with Bambu Studio once the machine is set (it's actually more powerfull than the Bambu Handy app, in which you can't slice a stl to print it).

If you have a tablet (Android of iOS), Bambu Handy App is available on the stores, so you may be able to do it, but you have to have a mobile device to do this, unfortunately...

Looks like this turns off the Handy App, and gives you an access code for your Bambu Studio to connect to it. Worth a try.
I could except I'm unable to navigate past the qr code.
I guess they never gave a thought about this and it is not possible to set you wifi password without the phone...

Typically with older machines you used an adapter to fit an SD card into a USB port , this still works for Bamboo Labs printers
If a jobs not worth doing then its certainly not worth doing well.

@XLR8 , I quickly check on Bambulab forum ( https://forum.bambulab.com/c/bambu-lab-p1/101 ) if I could see some indications... I could not find anything...

Ultimately, you may need a tablet or phone for going past the QR code... Any cheap Android tablet with google store access should be able to do the job, and you could even think about it as an additional screen for your P1S : I have seen some people running old Android phones as screens for their P1P with Bambu Handy App... (yes, maybe not what you need right now, but trying to think out of the box about possibe solutions)...

Possibly a friend has a phone you could use to set it up , maybe even a friends teenage child

XLR8 wrote: Sat Nov 09, 2024 2:58 pm So I have a P1s with the supplied spool of PLA and I'm ready to print for the first time.
I use a basic flip phone and care nothing about the Handy App or Bambu cloud, I simply want to send my files directly from my laptop to the printer via wifi connection.
However, when I navigate to WLAN for configuration, I'm asked to scan the displayed QR and I can't get beyond this.
The P1s is equipped with SD card reader but my laptop doesn't have an sd port so I must send files wirelessly.
Could someone please guide me through the wireless configuration process? Bambu support has so far not been helpful.
thanks.
Would a cheap Android Tablet with a rear facing camera, that's able to download Bambu Handy over WiFi, then be able to scan the QR code and get this all going, or is a phone necessary?

EDIT: Silvertriple already said this. I'll read more carefully before posting.

Well, thought I'd consult the experts so I'm on Bambu website trying to submit a "support ticket" but the form requires that I attach a printer log file.
There's no phone number either so no one to speak to.

What a pile of crap!
It seems the lack of Android or iOS device is very unusual... I'm not sure it is required on a X1C as I remember keying the wifi password directly on the X1C screen... But that was about 18 months now so I'm clearly not sure... I'll see this once the Bambulab A1 mini will arrive... Mobile devices are so usual in our everyday life we don't even think this could be an issue...

I was curious about this so I asked: what percentage of flip phones are in use today?

"Are more people using flip phones?
These retro devices are resurgent among 15.369 percent of Gen Z and younger Millennials. However, young people aren't the only users whose interest in flip phones is returning. This renaissance is also apparent among seniors. The most frequent reason for using flip phones is mental health. Aug 12, 2024"

Not sure about the "mental health" part, I use a flip for privacy and economy reasons. If the market for flips was dead or dying, then they would be pulled from the shelves. Yet, many cellular service providers still list them in their lineup.

I don't believe I'm the only Bambu customer to run into this problem. It seems a simple thing to address up-front. They could easily note that a mobile device running ios or android is required to set-up the printer for wireless. Why is that a problem for them??

So I was able to push the ticket to Bambu and I'll wait for their reply.

I didn't anticipate that my phone would have any bearing on the operation of a 3D printer. Perhaps one day we won't be able to breath without our smart phones.

To be honest, I did not either... That said, I'm working in Information Technology, and my usual business counterparts want mobile application anywhere... I can say myself I did came to android and iOS on the late as I did not like at all their way to put notification upfront everywhere to claim user attention... Many of the notifications are actually disabled on my phone (only remains what is important to me). That said, Bambu Handy have been quite usefull for me to monitor prints on the go (when you launch a multicolor print, it's better to have a look time to time on the way it happens in order to pause the print in case the purge bucket goes up - sometimes it happens).

Now, that being said, Bambu Handy don't require any cell connection : internet with wireless should be enough, and you may use a cheap tablet with wifi (google play store access is needed) to work this out.

And on your last statement, sometimes I feel like it may happen, or at least that what Apple and Google want the people to think. But the reality is that so far, a phone or a tablet is far from being as usefull as a real computer with a keyboard and a real pointer device...

Sorry to go off subject, and I hope you get your connection issue resolved Doug, but Bambu has started their Black Friday deals: https://us.store.bambulab.com/pages/black-friday-sale?from=navigation_bar
I build RCs like people would have done back in the '90s ..................................... if they had 3D printers.

Thanks. I'm confident everything will be sorted out eventually. If nothing else, there's always the SD card.
So yeah this sale runs for nearly 1 1/2 months; Oct 21st through Dec. 3rd. I received a nice discount on 4 spools of filament plus a nozzle and glue stick -- which should arrive in a few days.

This just in:

"Dear Bambu Lab Customer,

Thanks for your contact!

I’m sorry for the inconvenience this has caused you.

If you do not have an iOS or Android device, you can configure the network via the SD card.

Please refer to the link below for more detailed information.
"

https://wiki.bambulab.com/en/p1/manual/p1-sd-card-network-configuration-guide

"Once your printer is connected to the network, you can pair it with your account using the PIN code."

https://wiki.bambulab.com/en/bambu-studio/manual/pin-code

" Best Regards,

Bambu Lab Customer Support
"

It's Monday morning and I did not expect to receive a reply for a few days so very happy to hear from them so soon.
Anyway, I'll still need to buy a Micro SD to USB adapter as my laptop doesn't have an SD port.

Bambulab proposes since today some TPU for AMS. Shore is 68D, which means it is not as flexible than what we are used to think when we think TPU.

That said TPU layer adhesion is great, and printing speed announced are fast: that could be a good test to do for suspension arms or other exposed parts...

I had those D shores in mind for testing purpose (arms, gearbox walls) so I'll probably order some to see...
