For some reason, the front body mount that was on this car, was shorter than a regular Edinger mount, which I was able to find the older original Ed. mount in a bag, and put it on.

This shorter mount had a shorter body and mount, maybe a 1/4" shorter.
Image

(3) thick washers, with the longer Ed. mount, and a lot of trimming on the nose, the nose was too wide.
Image

Had to use a round file to get the oval to fit.
Image

No more pucker.
Image

Low enough.
Image

Finally ready to finish the decals now that the hard/scary part is over.

After I finished, I took a look at the JJH car to see how close I was getting - it was only then that I noticed he still had the pucker on his body

I've already said this, but I really do love the Hot VW's paint scheme, it was appropriate for so many reasons, imo.

The antenna tube I got today is more fluorescent green than yellow. Need to find a yellow tube.

Got the decals fine cut and ready to go. Took longer than I had anticipated.

The MCI decal sheet for this, used the wrong size JG sticker for the center of the hood.
Image

MCI copied the magazine car instead, not the JJH '85 IFMAR car.
Image

How it's supposed to look.
Image

There's another seller on ebay selling a JJH sticker sheet, it looks like it's higher quality, and more detailed (blue JG mfg. sticker has the period after mfg). I'm going to ask the seller about the size of the hood decal, but I can see it's about the same size as the numbers, which is closer to the correct scale.

Would really like to find an original JG hood sticker, but wouldn't know where to begin to look for that.

To me the JG hood decal on the eBay sheet looks the same size as the MCI ...where as you need the decal to be ~36.5% smaller

Their JG vs a JG that's sized down:
Big vs Small.jpg

Quick and dirty Halsey's car turned upright, straightened and scaled so the size of his number plates match the eBay decals... which really shows how much too big their JG is:

Their Number Plate/JG untouched:
Large JG.jpg

Their Number Plate/Smaller JG:
Small JG.jpg

Nicely done! I'll use one of your pics with the estimated scale difference. Thanks!

This particular JJH-Decal ebay seller is in the US, he got back to me saying if I can get him the correct scale, or size JG sticker measurements, he'll make it exactly to spec.

Here is the MCI-Racing incorrect sized decal for the JJH IFMAR car.

I'll get the ebay seller updated, and be back at some point with an example.

Another $40 single purchase decal, just like my recent HPI Corvette hood decal, all over again; I have to get this under control someday .

In looking at the 85 IFMAR car's wing, I see that's where the small flags are intended to go, not on the hood.
Image

In that case, the MCI American flag on the hood, might be closer to magazine scale too.

Other ebay seller's sheet has only one hood flag.

You're welcome, happy to help.

Cool to hear he'll size the decals for you. If his number plates are the right size the JG should be the same width, that's the way it looks in the Halsey photo, which means his hood flag needs reduced to 80% it's current size.... probably the same for the wing flags too...

His decal sheet specs out to 6.25x9@72ppi ....might try printing it and cutting the individual "stickers" out to see how they compare size wise. Maybe ask him the width of the number plates so you can make sure any changes you request are scaled property.

Know what you mean on items not working out... hopefully you can get his decals sized right so it doesn't happen twice. But on the plus side... could always take a stab and painting your own JJ buggy and use the left over decals to make a runner body.

Thanks! The ebay decal seller said that the AE statement put out recently, regarding their copyright, has made him want to quit printing AE's decals and selling them, altogether. I might have to live with the MCI sheet, but I just asked him if he would add two more scaled down decals to his existing JJH sheet, the hood JG and flag - we'll see what he says.

Going to put the MCI decals on for the moment, and hope for the best for the future.

Could ask him to omit the Associated decals and just print the ones you need, smaller sheet would cost less too. Or MCI lets you design your own decal sheets on their site, 5x7 starts at like $7CAD and you can scale each decal on the sheet to whatever size you want... kind of a cool option on their part... not that I'm pushing, just thinking out loud.

Didn't know MCI had a custom area, thanks for that!

I'm surprised to be the first to notice or say something about the hood scale problem to these decal makers. Perhaps the excellent pic, posted here by @TokyoProf, hasn't been around that long.

What's confusing is the different versions of the 85 JJH car - the Magazine car's:

No prob 8)

Tokyoprof regularly posts cool stuff... always dig his threads.

How many times has everyone gone into a store with a problem and heard... "You're the first person whose said anything"

On MCI's website in the black bar is a "Design Your Own Decal" option... confusing at first but, poke around in it long enough and it gets easier.

If the JJH decal sheet makers are going to offer options for both the 6 car, and the 4 car, they might as well include another scaled down flag and JG for the hood, for the actual '85 IFMAR car version.

MCI includes (2) hood flags of the same size, too large, and their blue JG mfg. sticker is missing the period after the mfg.
Image

Ebay seller includes (2) hood JG decals, both too large for the IFMAR car, and only one hood flag decal that is also too large.
Image

I'll look into the MCI custom sheet, but feel like I shouldn't have to, they've been selling that JJH sheet for a while now and I'm surprised I'm the one to have to mention all this, or that being this particular is a 'me problem'.

That is a great thread, missed that one somehow, thanks for that!

If I could find them all again, I'd put a link to all of the great previous JJH IFMAR car builds threads in here, to pay tribute to those as well, and to thank and credit them for getting me this far. Thanks to @scr8p, @Ruffy, @limestang!
