TRX-1 hodgepodge - Bandit, Rustler, Slash gearbox parts?
I think I'm going to have a lot of trouble finding a complete TRX-1 gearbox for my buggy. While searching, it looked to me like I might be able to make a Bandit gearbox work. I actually thinking of a modified RPM Bandit gearbox so I would get an aluminum motor plate. But I need some measurements. Does anyone have one of these gearboxes sitting around and could take precision height and width measurements for the front of it?

Re: Bandit, Rustler, Slash gearbox
You could get TRX-3 trans case, a pro ball diff kit, top shaft/top gear, idler, and slipper components. But then you would need to source a motor plate or modify one.
Hope you're doin' something fun.

Re: Bandit, Rustler, Slash gearbox
The eBay prices on the individual gearbox parts seem pretty high. But even the path I'm looking at could get close to $100 for all new parts. Maybe I should just put a Stealth gearbox there and be done with it.

Height is 37mm/1.45in
width... depends on where you measure as the case is tapered.... 23.9mm/.94in at the bottom 23.4mm/.92in at the top

Re: Bandit, Rustler, Slash gearbox
The width is great but unfortunately the height is about 0.5" too tall. Bummer. Thanks for the measurements.

Re: Bandit, Rustler, Slash gearbox
Bummer indeed. Very welcome though. Would cutting down the nose of the gearbox be an option?Frankentruck wrote: ↑Tue Oct 31, 2023 8:00 am The width is great but unfortunately the height is about 0.5" too tall. Bummer. Thanks for the measurements.

Re: Bandit, Rustler, Slash gearbox
I'm considering the next option. It might still involve Bandit parts.

Re: TRX-1 gearbox hodgepodge - Bandit, Rustler, Slash gearbox parts?
The 2520 "pro ball diff kit" would work as far as most of the diff, I think it comes with two diff gears, one for the 272 application and one for the TRX-1/3/TCP application(s). So maybe all of the diff is in that bag. The old 4620 is originally for the Rad2's,Eagles, etc. And os not compatible. The 2520 is essentially a TRX-1 diff with a 272 diff gear thrown in the bag. Please double check though as I've never purchased a 2520. Check out this post/thread:Frankentruck wrote: ↑Wed Nov 08, 2023 8:50 pm Does any of these work for a TRX-1 gearbox:

Re: TRX-1 gearbox hodgepodge - Bandit, Rustler, Slash gearbox parts?
The 2520 pro diff seems to be just what was needed, although it's a little sloppy from side to side. In metric-ness, it's about 0.81mm total looseness. I might add a little shim to each put shaft.

+1 with the shocks. If you want "official" shims/"washers", TRA 1985.

They come in handy with the rear stub axles as well.

Re: TRX-1 hodgepodge - Bandit, Rustler, Slash gearbox parts?
I came across a nice, one owner, mostly complete TRX-1 in a lovely shade of Kermit the Frog green. It came with a really nice motor plate too. However, some slight difference between the TRX-3 gearbox and a TRX-1 gearbox mean the TRX-1 motor plate only works with a TRX-1 gearbox. Well crap, now I have another TRX-1 that needs parts too. But at least it's green?

Well, now you have to build a shelfer, with that trans and motorplate as the foundation.Frankentruck wrote: ↑Tue Jan 23, 2024 5:56 pm I came across a nice, one owner, mostly complete TRX-1 in a lovely shade of Kermit the Frog green. Re: TRX-1 hodgepodge - Bandit, Rustler, Slash gearbox parts?
Kermit is pretty well cleaned up, but now I need to figure out what to do for front wheels.
. .
The rears here are Bandit 2474 pin drive wheels, but the matching Bandit 2475 are also a pin drive wheel. I would prefer the fronts to be the old fashioned bearing in wheel setup. Any thoughts what I might use?
