cobrakai's RC10GT brushless conversion

Post by cobrakai »

I have shared some photos of this in another thread years ago, but since then I've done more work to it. This is my RC10GT blue chassis I bought new like 20 years ago.

I converted it to a mid-motor, transverse battery electric

The motor bolts to a 1-piece transmission/motor mount. Inside, I converted the stock differential to a TLR 22 series planetary gear diff. The gear pitch is the same but the teeth count was different, and diff width was also different, necessitating a whole new tranny. No effort was put into weight savings, I could definitely shave some grams off here...
I later built an aluminum bulkhead.

The receiver is mounted on top of the steering servo and fits under the body.

I am using the stock slipper and 32 pitch gears. 21/60

The battery holder also has a feature that guides the motor wires. Everything bolts to the stock chassis holes so no additional holes are drilled. It has slots to help push the battery out (it's velcro'd down).

I got a new JConcepts body and painted it hi-viz :D

Hope you enjoyed :)

Really nice conversion. Thanks for posting. I’m converting my black tub and I got some good ideas from your photos. One question; what KV motor are you running and how does it do?

There are lots of E-GT conversions around here. The flat blue chassis is a little easier but there are still several tub trucks.

This is from a T5 but should still be a good starting place for motor and gear ratio selections.

Hi

Thanks for posting that chart I was looking for something like that. I'm also building a E-GT and almost done, just need some electrics and to paint the body.
