LXT axle length

Post by mikesofunny »

For some reason, the front wheel nuts don't go past the end of the axle, my OCD dislikes this! I scoured the internet & it appears that they should. The only thing I can think of is that I have the wrong axles. The spindles & wheels are definitely correct. I am using the factory spacer (A3023). They can't be XXT axles, so what are they? What part # will fix this? Thanks.

The manual calls out A-1012 for the "front Pro axles" (used on the LXT, JRX Pro SE, and GTX) you may have the JRX ones, A-1005, Which I think might be slightly shorter. Do they have a Set screw in the back?

How sure are you that those are the right spacers? They should be thinner than the spacers used on the rear axles.

You can use the XXT ones, A-1022. The NXT used them as stock equipment and it basically the same suspension. but you'd have to use XXT or XXXT wheels to keep the width right.
Consistency is the key I keep misplacing.

They do have a set screw. I'm not 100% on the spacers, but they are pretty thin (definitely thinner than the rear ones), just thick enough to get the wheels to not touch the steering. I might just need to bite the bullet on the 1012s to see. Thanks!

The A-1005 & A-1012 front axles are both the same length…I measure .700” length from the shoulder to the end of the axle on both of them. The only difference is the set screw to lock it against the king pin.

What you are seeing on your LXT is correct due to the added inner spacer…all the other early Losi buggies and trucks will have the nylon nut nearly flush with the end of the axle when adjusted properly.

You could instead use the A-6303 low profile steel nuts or the A-6304 aluminum nuts if it bothers you that much. They are both .190” deep vs .250” of the nylon nut.

I bought new axles, which of course were the same, BUT they came with (genuine) Losi nylon nuts, which are thinner (than the aftermarket ones I had) & now they're nice and flush... So I can stare at my pristine LXT on the shelf and smile

I appreciate the measurements! I couldn't bring myself to use the metal nuts on it. Trying to keep it as original as possible, but good info.
