So you didn’t find any obvious cause of the noise? Just dirty?

Ya , The gears were pretty gummed up. I bought the truck used and just did a light going over. But what I did like I mentioned was a complete tear down and clean and rebuild. I mean I clean all gearbox pieces to new like condition and rebuilt the gear box with a new Tamiya gear box housing. What I did notice however was while I was disassembling the old gear box the axle on the right side was wobbling as I spun the axles with out the motor weird , I have come to the conclusion that the previous owner ran this truck hard cause after the rebuild axles spin free quiet and free. The gear box seems tighter as well , what I mean is there is less slop in the gears. I was going over other posts and found that a light coating of grease (used Tamiya ceramic grease from the kits) and used a Q-tip to cover the areas that needed it. What I also noticed no abnormal gear wear or pieces of metal. Ya so that's it sorry for the long post hope this helps some else.
