Nice to see progress. How does it drive with the higher center of gravity?

Also, have you considered using a body that fits the longer wheelbase (288mm) Traxxas 4-tec 3.0 series?

I've only had a brief shakedown run for the electronics so far. The suspension is set very soft right now and it lifts a rear wheel in every sharp turn due to body roll. But it grips well. I do need to come up with a new body. The battery mounting is too tall for the Cat body. I'll take a look at the Traxxas offerings. It is going to be run off-road too, so I need a body that won't cover the wheels.

I started racing with associated vehicles but switched to schumacher in 2012. It was crazy how much faster the 2wd buggy was than the associated at the time. Unfortunately it was very unreliable. Went back to associated and never looked back. Still have a huge soft spot for schumacher cars, have a rere schumacher kit in progress currently :D

Growing up, Schumacher cars were just things I'd read about In magazines. No one in the shops or at the races ever had one. The XLS and the Top Cat both seemed drool-worthy.

I've started fitting an adjustment body mount setup that will let me experiment with mounting different types of bodies. I'm starting out with a 1/10 scsle slug bug, but the proportions seem to have been exaggerated for fitting onto trucks and truggies.

I've changed my plans for an undertray. I don't think having something that holds debris in and feeds it into the belt drive is a good thing for a 4WD car. I'm considering the JConcepts protective sheets for a chassis skin, but not sure if it's any better than plain old contact paper. Hopefully it is.

I feel like it's the same these days as far as finding anything schumacher at a hobby store. That was one of the reasons I sold mine. Back in 2012ish it was long waits and hard to find any parts, but man you certainly were the talk of the track when the next coolest thing was maybe a b4 with some carbon on it.

What kind of tires and wheels are these? A few weeks ago I bought a RC10T4 RTR "parts truck" cheap to use some parts & hardware off of it to use on the T4 factory team build, but scrapped the "parts truck" idea and decided to turn the "parts truck" into a full-time on-road T4. The look of these wheels and tires you have pictured is what I had in mind.

Schumacher U6709 front tires with U6652 foam inserts and U6710 rear tires with U6653 foam inserts. The white wheels came with my K1 so I don't know their part numbers. The Schumacher black wheels I got for my spikes are the same size as the white wheels. The black are U4495 front and U4365 rear.

I think I'm done. I did use a JConcepts protective sheet for the underside and then added a front bumper. Now I need to take it out and experiment with the gearing to see what seems right for it.

Since the rear wheel is lifting, the following roll bar sets may be helpful.

U4944 - Pro Front Roll Bar Kit - CAT K2 (this seems to fit the K1 as well but appears to be discontinued)

Based on your requirements, the street body would probably not be a good choice. The Traxxas shell was only suggested since they offered a longer wheelbase touring option. Also, fitting touring width arms may result in the rear tires rubbing the K1 chassis.

Given your open wheel requirement, have you considered the Schumacher Storm ST shell and body mounts?

Using the K1 and the KF2 on a deteriorating road with loose pebbles, I have learned that velcro around the perimeter of the body shell (where the body contacts the side rails) provides good protection. In fact, if using a larger body (e.g. the Storm ST body), I would still prefer to use the K1 or K1 Aero body underneath to protect the drivetrain.

Also, nice bumper and custom body mounts. I added a front bumper (with a blank T-Bone Racing bumper) and it has been helpful.

When ordering Schumacher parts, A-main Hobbies and Discount RC Store have been good sources. Additionally, Discount RC Store has been helpful when ordering non-stocked parts directly from Schumacher.

I was considering running an body under the top body for added protection for the drivetrain. I'm thinking about a u5123 with a tight fitting cutout for the battery. The existing u5116 body has the sides cut a little high so I'll need to start with a fresh body. If it doesn't come low enough on the sides, I may need to add some chassis side walls. Maybe I should anyway so there's a place for Velcro (the pods had to be removed for space reasons).

One custom trimmed dust cover. Still haven't decided if it will stay clear or not. Leaning towards staying clear because of all the tight routings inside it.

I've got a Sabula Tech Funco 2 seater body and it actually looks like a really good fit with the battery and electronics layout I have.
