Surprised at how nice the 6 gear is

I just put together my second rc10 6 gear. My first was 3 decades ago.

I wanted to go original as I could. If money wasn’t an object I would have had an original MSC, bushings and the full body kit with driver and stickers, but all of that would have really increased the cost of the build.

It’s really a nice car to drive even with the mechanical
speed controller.

It still needs bearing for the front wheels, shocks, e-clips ,nose braces and A stamp wing tubes .

After my first project I think I am going to build and get things running ASAP before i go out and make multiple part orders.

What is the length supposed to be for A stamp bulkhead wing tubes?
It’s way longer than the team car tubes for sure.

Also the j-concepts wheels I got came yellowed? How should those be whitened?

Something to think about.

The same length wing tubes don't fit some bodies as well as others. I always cut them to whatever length fits the body best.

I see that you don't have nose tubes either. I prefer to make them shorter than the originals, leaving extra room around the servo and bellcranks.

I use K&S 83060 tubing to make mine (tapping it can be frustrating).

If you decide to buy the JConcepts nose and wing tubes, be aware that the wing tubes are the short versions and they aren't drilled through. They are tapped at each end (4-40) but are fairly easy to drill for the wire to pass through. I actually used a set with a early bulkhead by using 4-40 cap screws on the bottom to adjust the length and then glued them in place (required).

How are your cars stored? Possibly somewhere that could expose them to the elements (garage or shed, maybe?).

They might clean up with a good scrubbing. Dish soap and a stiff toothbrush will do more than most think.

They came out of the package like that. I gotta try cleaning them up



How I store my cars is going to be another topic. They are stored outside unprotected (under shade) in desert conditions. I've taken to storing my unused parts in a bucket of water. It looses about a 3/4 a gallon a week to evaporation. I've had to throw some bleach drop in the water to prevent alage.

I was thinking of getting tubing from McMaster since I am building up an order.

For the outdrives, my regular small ones fit. They were from a cheap set (Harbor Freight, or similar).

For the shocks, I modified some small forceps to fit. They work but I usually find myself using picks instead.

I cleaned the motor in water it was about 2x as fast as it was before. That did not help.

I tried it and I can't recommend it. The motor was slow but smooth before. Now it sounds like arcing popcorn but is super fast.

though the popcorn sound could be something else built wrong as well. Somehow I thought my experience with stealth based Rc10's would transfer but nope. It's a totally different beast.

This was how we would break in motors. Low voltage (a couple cells) and dip the motor in water while running a few times. It would quickly break in the brushes and you were good to go. Not for cleaning at all. Only motor spray in my motors.

I rebuilt a set of bottom load shocks a couple days ago. They were in rough shape but the pliers still removed the clips with ease.

I'd soaked the original parts for a few days before assembly. I am beginning to wonder if that wasn't enough.

I went and boiled/simmered them for 20 minutes; I hope that is enough.
