Shocks, pistons, and oil. Oh my.
Hello everyone. I've been mostly out of the rc scene for a year or so. I have decided to get back into it and have been cleaning up and gathering. Anyways, I need to put together a few pairs of shocks. One set for a buggy that I want to put back together and maybe race if I can find somewhere to do so. I figured 30 weight oil, #2 pistons, and silver springs. Does this sound like a good starting point? Also are the first generation pistons considered #2? I mean the ones with no number. What do you folks use?

Since you have no idea what conditions you will be running on, that sounds like a neutral starting point.

yes, if you have green springs, silver springs, and 25-35 weight oil, that should cover you for 98% of things, and #2 piston is most used.

Ok, Thanks guys. I found these in a few shocks. Obviously aftermarket. Anyone know what these are?

The blue ones look like RPM but the pink ones look different. Is the pin tapered, and does it fully seat when the shock compresses?

There's a set on Ebay for $20.
I have two sets, and don't particularly like them. I don't know, maybe if I spent more time with them.

I get the idea in theory just not in the application. I would think it would get jammed, float around, or break in the shock. Got to love the early ideas and mods. Are the RPM pistons worth trying out? Better for a buggy or truck.
