Tamiya Bear Hawk; Found My First RC Car

Post by JackOTrades »

My First RC car was a Tamiya Bear Hawk. I didn't know what I was doing when I built it up but the instructions were good enough to get it running. Over the years I Frankensteined that car trying to get more from it than was ever intended for. I don't remember, but it may still be sitting in a junk box of old child-hood toys at my parents place 3500 miles away.

Having gotten into the nostalgic RC kick in the last year, this has been one of the cars that I wanted to add to my collection.

I have been slowly collecting parts to build up a car from scratch. There are new kits out there but they are in the $700 price range. In the mean time, this RTR popped up on ebay and I managed to snag it for what I think was a good deal.

They car is in great condition with a vintage Futaba Magnum Radio (I originally had a stick radio) . I think the plans will be to build a vintage stock shelf queen and a runner with a couple of upgrades including bearings, dampers, motor, esc, etc... i guess it will depend what goes to the shelf queen and the ballance of parts that I have to make up. I do have a new unpainted body that will go to the shelf queen.

Looking forward to following your build, always like checking out what mods are added to squeeze more out of the Tamiya cars (an old hotshot was one of my firsts and it barely resembled the original car when I was done with it). :)
I come for the RC10's but stay for the Yokomo's :P

Current projects:
1993 WCS Faux-komo
1994 Yokomo Box-Art
RC10GT Restoration
