My new ride
I bought this rc10 today and wanted to see what people think. The one question I had was if the slipper nut is tightened all the way down, and it still slips, what’s the problem? Any help is great.

Re: My new ride
Your car has the original 6 Gear trans.
You are cranking down on the Diff, no slipper.

Re: My new ride
I thought 6 gears had slippers and that’s why they have metal balls in the spur gear and metal plates and spring? I dont think mine has a ball diff... I could be wrong.

Re: My new ride
The following copied from AE RC10 Classic Manual:
VariLok Diff Adjustment Tips:
Be sure to only use Associated diff lube #6636, and apply a small
amount on both sides of the diff balls. Do not use this diff grease
anywhere else on the vehicle! It is not intended as a lubricant (Use only
Associated diff lube as it has special additives to ensure the balls roll
instead of slide).
The RC10 Classic is not equipped with a slipper clutch like most current
R/C vehicles are. Therefore, particular care and attention is necessary
when setting the VariLok differential. Set the differential by starting with
the 5-40 nut flush with the end of the diff shaft. Next, turn on the car
and hold the tires (as seen below) with transmitter in hand. Quickly give
the car a 75-100% burst of throttle. Note, if the spur gear spins and
the car does not move forward then the diff is too loose. Adjust the diff
nut in 1/8 turn increments until the spur gear doesn’t slip. At this point,
the diff is set as free as possible without slipping. Tightening the diff nut
even further will increase the amount of power that is transferred to the
tire that has the most load and will not ‘diff out’ as easily. Locking down
the diff nut is not recommended because the only slipping that can occur
will be between the drive rings and hubs. This can create a tremendous
amount of heat.

Re: My new ride
Well that sounds right. The diff nut is tightened all the way and it still slips. Maybe the disks are dirty? And ideas on how to fix it? I would eventually like to drive it... it’s killin me!

Re: My new ride
I'm looking at your last photo. Sorry if this sounds condescending but have you fix that displace left dogbone?
Also, it appears that the e-clip is missing from the end of the top shaft. I don't believe this will cause the transmission to slip but it could lead to other problems if the shaft is allowed to float sideways.

Re: My new ride
Only one way to tell for sure.
Take the diff apart and take pics if you don't find the problem.
Probably needs to be cleaned and lubed at the least.
There can be a couple different solutions.
Should be fairly easy.

Re: My new ride
Well I fixed it... I combined the Diff/Slipper of 2 6-gear trannys and it drives like a dream. What to do next is the question...
What would be the best way to set it up for track running? And I think I might have RC10T shocks in the back. Seems a little tall. And I also have some interesting driveshafts on the car, never seen them before.
Sorry for the random ideas. Just a little excited.

Re: My new ride
So I took her down the street for the first time today. Way faster than I thought. That EPIC motor has a lot of gettyup and go. Also cleaned the back half.
And the rear driveshaft that is loose in the picture keeps coming loose and I dont know how to fix it. They are driveshafts I have never seen before.

Re: My new ride
Universal Joint driveshafts?
Do you have them shimmed properly?
Do you have an RC10 Manual?

Re: My new ride
Yeah I think so. I’ll look into the spacing fix. I also have some rear tires that say Jammin on them. I know the name but are they rare? There in really good condition.

Re: My new ride
Hi,
Could be too much droop in the rear shocks?
Like RC10Resto said, the drive shafts look like the original Team Associated universal joints.
Cheers, Dave.

Re: My new ride
So, what was causing the slippage? Was it due to worn parts or maybe a PO assembled something incorrectly??

Re: My new ride
I’m not sure. It’s almost like the original plates had a weird coating on them or something because as soon as I used the plates from my parts tranny it worked flawless. Kinda weird but who knows.
I wanted to note that I used a 7 cell and that thing was ballooning tires
