gold tub to nitro rear end question...

Post by the13bats »

Ive seen some pretty cool builds on here doing what associated should have done and made a gold pan nitro buggy,

This one is really good,

https://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=30473

I want to start this after my 58 bomber build is done,

Seems the front end is easy, remove the gold plate front with steering from gold pan screw to black tub GT, a couple tweaks and done,

I saw one that appered to be stock gold tub buggy rear arms on the stock black pan rear camber blocks,
So is that all just happen to fit together as it seems to do here?
Was anything cut or?

Image

Just hunting a few details on what it took to fit the gold buggy rear arms,

Thanks
cheers

The bulkhead holes don’t quite line up with the GT holes in the chassis, but they’re close enough you can get them started at an angle and thread them home from there. And when I did mine I reversed the bulkhead and custom cut a trans to bulkhead brace. You’ll need a little spacer on the trans side as the height is a little different

I wish I didn’t mess up all the pictures but here was my thread.

And I did find another few pictures.

Thanks,

It would seem each builder goes the way he or she finds most promising, in achieving what they desire im here to gain food for thought which way to go with mine, where im not going for a "gold pan nitro" rather a custom nitro dirt oval outlaw, seeing what worked for others saves me time.

Too bad your pix got lost,

Im still interested in what the builders are doing with the rear trailer arm mounts like in these pics,

It appears the rear gold pan arms are on the nitro arm mounts ?

I wish I could remember more details. I don’t remember my turnbuckles being at a bad angle but it’s been too long to say for sure. If you’re going oval it might be worth your while to just use the GT bulkhead and do a custom tower or an oval tower as you won’t need the wing tubes.

Thanks,

Ive built a few mid engine and rear engine rear cars, or my vettes with irs rears,
I have seen both buckle and half shaft angles on these little cars we wouldnt have allowed on big cars,
So i gotta remember these dont require what big cars do,
I have considered doing a full custom made bulk head, not sure how far i wanna go

for nitro rc10, it's as simple as using a rc10gt chassis, trimming the front 0.400 inch from the end to shorten wheelbase. use a buggy nose clip complete, and swap in rear a-arms and bones/axles, leaving the bulkhead arm mounts, hubs and trans intact. if you use 1/4" axles, use the buggy hubs.

Thanks all!

I had a bit of time after painting a few upstairs outside walls to putz with the outlaw for fun,

I did use the gold front clip but i didnt trim anything 3 screw holes line up 2 are tapped ill just tap that 3rd one,

The WB will be okay since someone way opened up the bodies wells,

i way should have cleaned the GT before messing with it i knew when i bought it ( 25.00 on craigslist ) it had been well bashed,

The plate is warped but if you need a piece let me know.

So my questions about rear buggy arms and the arm mount,

When i used a stock buggy arm on the gt mount the spur gear hit it, and no, i havent rebuilt the tranny yet,
I noticed on these pink arms from my boneyard someone trimmed a bit at the pivot area, this does clear the spur, barely,

Here is a comparison, stock buggy arm and GT arm,
The GT arm is far more refined,

This buggy came with a froze engine with MIP style stinger which i do not believe i will use as i want to use shorter, lower mounted shocks in the rear and the stinger shock tower doesnt agree with that,

Progress,
Rear custom 01
Rear custom 01
Rear custom 02
Rear custom 02
Im fairly happy with this set up, the shock spaced off the A arm and i just have it mocked up, ill have to rebuild the shocks and use correct springs and oil, use nice spacers
Not sure if ill use the lower shock mounts from the GT, ill do some testing,

I was looking at the rear suspension on the DS as a loose guide but wanted a bit more that the DS offers, to me ds suspension is on road of very smooth dirt,

Now a bit of fun,
On my donor GT i tore apart the trans, woo hoo, a hack job mess,
They had the diff screw with both thrust washers no balls, then a spacer and into the diff, no cap/ t cover,

The other side had no spring just the T nut that had its ears sheared off, so it was tight but turned and getting the screw out was tricky,

Tonight ill clean and rebuild it correctly,

It also dawned on me that my body for this project has holes, the rears were rc10 body mounts on the tops of the shock tower the front was one hole that seems to have mounted like a gold tub buggy body,
I have to at least in the rear make a body mount that meets the holes i dont wanna cut more holes,
