If your hanging out and drinkin a beer thats partying these days
Ah okay. I'll hang out, but these days I substitute black coffee for beer. Had problems with drinking through out my 20's-30's which lead to bad things, so now a days alcohol and I like to keep our distance from each other
Some more work done in the past two days on this project. Got a lot more of the upper cage done with some more cross braces and such. Just waiting for the shocks to get here so I can go ahead and build the shock hoops into the chassis next. Also got the 4 links done now. Took all day because rather than do them with threaded rod and brake line over the rod I wanted them to be extremely durable so I ordered some 1/4" solid 6160 aluminum as well as some alloy rc4wd rod ends to make them out of. Drilled and tapped the ends so they are about as beefy as you can get now.
This might not seem like a big thing from just the pic...but this is a huge thing I have been worried about on this project. I now have 12mm hexes on the rc4wd digger axles. They come with 14mm hexes which really limits you to basically using the expensive & heavy derlin wheels if you want to run clod sized tires. But after buying some Bully II 12mm hexes, then modifying them with a dremel and metal working bit to open up the pin slot, then drilling the hole out in 6 stages to get to the final size. I now can run Tributes and Firestorms like I want on these Digger axles.
Well 8 bottles of O2, 2 bottles of Mapp, and $100 worth of Harris safety silv45 rod later lol....chassis is done. Now I get to spend the day cleaning it all up tomorrow. That's a job in and of itself. Tires & wheels should be here tomorrow as well so fun stuff starting soon
If a jobs not worth doing then its certainly not worth doing well.
A problem shared is a problem halved but an advantage shared is no advantage at all.
The chassis itself weighs 2.7 lbs. With the axles and tires/wheels and everything I am using I am going to estimate the total RTR weigh will probably be around 10-10.5lb range.

I decided to paint this one. I went with powder coat on my other tuber truck I built. This truck though I plan to beat the ever living day lights out of and really put it through the ringer. So I decided to go with paint for this one in case sometime down the road I ever need to replace a bent or broken tube then I'll be able to weld in a new one and touch it up with paint without having to strip and recoat the whole thing.
Chassis is done Spent the day doing the headers then lots of sanding and cleaning. Hit it with some etching primer and then shoot it with some hammer silver. Gonna let it cured up for a day or two then start putting the axles and trans and all the goodies under it.
A lot more progress on project "Superbeast" over the past week. After finishing building the chassis I built some links out of solid 1/4" 6160 aluminum stock, drilled tapped for alloy 8/32 rod ends, then polished them so those are done now. Went with HPI Savage shocks and got some progressive rate springs for them. By modifying some Bully 2 12mm hexes I was able to go with Tributes and Firestorms which give it a 17" width using the large offset adapter which works perfect with the 17" wheelbase and 21" OAL chassis specs I built into it. Built my own sway bar for the rear of the truck. Body is mounted and trimmed but still needs to be cleaned up on edges. New Iwata airbrush should be here next week so soon as that gets here I'll start doing some airbrush work on the body then so looking fwd to that.
Thanks guys. Out of all the trucks I have built this one is for sure becoming my favorite. It's really starting to pan out like I had hoped it would. Starting to look at motors & ESC's now. Haven't decided for sure what electronics I'll use but I am thinking probably a Mamba Monster X and a 2200kv brushless so should be a fun truck to drive. Can't wait to get my hands on the new airbrush. Been looking at lots of pro mod drag cars (real cars) lately on line to get some idea so I got a really wild paint scheme in mind for it
