also be aware that some wheels can be melted from acetone. likely if the pair you have are associated or proline or something similar, it will be OK, especially in 2.2" size. you can check though, just put a dab on the inside of the wheel and check it to see if it seems to soften(may take a few minutes), use your fingernail to see if it get soft and you can dig in. if not you are good.

Re: Newbie with Race Motor and AE RC10
I'll make sure to do that whenever it'll need new tires. The tires on there are AE tires, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything about the wheels.
I'm REALLY excited to go racing this Friday! It'll be the first time this car has EVER been on a track! That'll be cool.
Out of curiosity, since I've been probing into 3D printing lately, I searched up RC10 on Thingiverse. I saw some files for RC10 suspension arms and stuff, are there any foreseeable problems with printing suspension arms? It's probably going to be ABS or PLA, but possibly nylon or NinjaFlex.
Are any of these unsuitable for printing suspension arms?
It would be great to make a 3D printed suspension to beat on, and possibly tough enough to tackle the circuit jumps.

all kinds of parts on Shapeways
and if you search around here you will find members that have played with different compounds.
Dadio - 834B would be a good place to look.

Re: Newbie with Race Motor and AE RC10
I think most would agree that printed parts aren't as strong as molded ones.
That said, in many instances, it is possible to alter the design to improve the strength of a printed part.
I'm holding onto hope that someday 3d printing will match injection molding in both strength and appearance but we're not there yet.

Re: Newbie with Race Motor and AE RC10
Ok, here's what happened at Indy RC World:
I showed up with the RC10(with beater wheels all around), and got signed up for the Future Champions youth class and the Run What Ya Brung class. Until we got there, I had no idea a transponder was needed, but thankfully one of the guys there had me covered, so that was a huge plus.
Then we has some serious issues with transponder interference. No matter where on the car we put it, it would either override the steering or the throttle, which of course would not do. Eventually after trying to figure it out, the basically just said "Hey, we don't want you to wreck this car, so how about we lend you a Bandit instead?" so that's what happened.
I rented a Traxxas Bandit for $20, and I had a ton of fun!
Then we found out the Bandit was one half power!!
The guy who loaned me the transponder got it to full power, and man! Could that Bandit BOOGIE! I did a lot better with full power, although all the 4WD cars had more traction.
The biggest advantage I had was a good knowledge of racing lines, so I was able to turn in consistent, fast lap times. In the Future Champions division, I has a big advantage because I wasn't wrecking every lap!
The other racers were going every which way while I weaved through them!
The RWYB class was stiffer, but I still held my own.
Aaalright....I admit, I was kinda nasty on the track. Since the trucks were so much faster that me on the straightaways, I would just turn into their path eeever so slightly, and since it was one buggy vs. a whole field of trucks basically, I could practically launch guys off the track like that!
It was fun.

Re: Newbie with Race Motor and AE RC10
Awesome! Congratulations on running your very first RC race.
The last time I raced RC was in Feb. 1994 and I miss it so much - those were happy times.
Anyway, yeah I totally forgot about the transponder requirement. I'm a little surprised that it caused you so much trouble. 2.4 Ghz radios are plentiful and dirt cheap these days so you might consider an upgrade. I have a Futaba 4pls in many of my runners (not cheap) but I also have a few of AE's XP systems (cheap) and they seem fine. Also, although I don't have any experience with them myself, I hear that FlySky systems are good (around 30-40 bucks new) and extra receivers for them are very inexpensive.
Anyway, you gotta get the RC10 sorted out and on the track so you can show'em how a real race car performs.
One very important thing to keep in mind is the benefit of running consistent error free laps - even if it means that you're driving a little slower. It's pointless to go fast if you end up on your lid and have to wait for a marshal to put you right again.

Re: Newbie with Race Motor and AE RC10
Yeah, it was fun! I ended up getting 3rd place in the Future Champs division, so that got me a $3 track gift certificate. That was neat and unexpected! I just spent it on 2 cans of Dr. Pepper and a package of can for the ride home. We didn't get home until 2 AM.
The main reason I got 3rd was because I got good at sending people off track by using my car as a ramp.
I need to put some kind of aftermarket suspension on the RC10 before I race it, basically just make it so if I snap an A-arm I won't care. Unfortunately it may be a while until I get back to the track, since my dad was put off by one of the guys vaping indoors, and how late the racing lasted.
Ah well, my GRANDPA is coming back from a work trip very soon, and HE wants to take me to the track!
He's got a twin RC10 with a green VW beetle body on it. Chances are he'll just buy me some suspension parts for the RC10 and take it racing!
And of course a 2.4 Ghz radio system, and a transponder......
That'll probably cost about $300!
But I mean, he IS a dentist, and he was the one who bought both RC10s in the first place.

Re: Newbie with Race Motor and AE RC10
Sometimes a radio interference problem can be solved simply by moving electrical components (ESC, receiver, transponder) to a different location in the car and by replacing your motor capacitors. You may not actually need a new radio.
In all my years running RC10's, these are the only suspension parts that I've broken. I have never broken an arm - and I've certainly nailed my share of trees and fence posts (and maybe some corner marshal's feet?).
Future Champions? Hmm, someone please correct me but didn't Lewis Hamilton race RC's at one time??

Re: Newbie with Race Motor and AE RC10
Here's the results from LiveRC:
My entries are for JT Alexander, these are all the races I was in.
The races are in order with the first ones at the bottom.
For the most part, I got about 75% consistency, and in the A Mains(The finals) for the Future Champions division, I had the fastest lap!
Essentially, all of the races where it says my fastest lap was more than 6 seconds were when my car was on half power.
I know I was gonna do a video, but that kinda fell through. Ah well.

Re: Newbie with Race Motor and AE RC10
hello, I would like to know more about itJTSpeedDemon wrote: ↑Sun Oct 20, 2019 9:21 am Hey guys, I'm a new 13 yr. old here, and this is my first post.
I got this old Team Associated RC10(built from the kit by my dad and grandpa), and I want to bring it back to life.![]()
It's also got a Futaba Magnum Junior transmitter, and an aftermarket speed controller meilleur crédit system. Stock motor, driving through a Vari-Lok differential.
In the box, I also found a Kyosho Le Mans 34 Super Stock motor(with bearings)!![]()
I'm considering swapping it in, or selling it to buy other parts, what's y'all's advice?
The Kyosho Le Mans 34 says 0.65mm x 27 turns. What does this mean? Is more turns desirable? And for what reason?
I can't find ANY info on the web for the LM34, so any info about it would be helpful.
it's also got dual bearings, so that's a HUGE plus!
I also want to repaint the body, since that color is just, ewwwwww.....!
Yesterday I also lubed up the moving suspension parts and cleaned it up a bit, so the suspension is much smoother now. I'll eventually maintenance the shocks.
Any thoughts/advice on this build would be immensely helpful!
I don't really know much of anything about this stuff except what I read on places like this, and my previous ham radio experience.
Or what exactly are we talking about here? Thank you

Sure, feel free to ask questions, and chat in general! Why is that link added to my quote? The URL looks a bit fishy...
