Is Associated out of 12th scale?

Post by rraeford »

I see the 12R6 has been discontinued with no replacement. Has Associated thrown in the towel on 12th scale?

Looks like they are getting out of on road entirely.

Quite depressing looking at AEs web page nowadays.. Looks more like a toy shop or Thunder Tiger assortments. Yeah I know AE is owned by TT, but does TT really need two toy grade brands?

The same thing has happened with small engines, believe it or not.
Briggs and Stratton was and still is a legendary brand, but for almost 100 years, their mainstay was the flathead engine. Now they've succumbed to the import influence and are just making Honda copies essentially.
And in this case AE got bought out by an Asian company, which would be like Ford getting bought out by Kia. Terrible!
Chances are we'll see the AE products' quality go down and down, until it's degraded into another toy grade RC brand with some cute nostalgia. Ya can't beat made in America.
Because these foreign companies are just interested in profit and making the business as huge as possible, not making quality racecars for people like us!
What probably happened is they figured out that the 12th scale wasn't netting enough profit, so axed they did!
Anyways, enough of my ranting....
Original Cadillac A stamp AE RC10 with Hot Trick parts! That's how I roll! 8)

I have no issue with them selling toy grade stuff if it keeps them in the black. Money is money. They still have the TC7.2 and the F1 car so I was hoping to see them replace the 12R6. Alas...

I agree. TT/AE are just purging their catalog of slow moving products. It's time for change I reckon.
Hopefully, this is to clear the way for interesting new products to come. As it stands, I really don't see anything in their lineup I'd be interested in purchasing - maybe that will change -- we'll see.

Now that locked rear axles are a thing again in 1/12, maybe AE should just re-re the 12e.

Now all of Associated on road cars are gone from the website. No F1. No 12R6 and no Tc7. Oh well.
Correction, I guess the TC7 is still available.
