Substitute for B2/B3 rear wheels
Hi guys
Since Tower is not able to supply B2/B3 rear wheels any more (discontinuted) is there an alternative we can use for racing? I had a look at the Thunder Tiger Phoenix BX wheels because TTR stated that this buggy is based on the AE B3 but it seems that they now switched to the B4/B44 style wheels with less offset. At least the pics in the manual and on the TTR homepage state that the rear track width is significantly smaller than the front track.
May Duratrax Ivader items do the job? I am not sure if that thing is metric or emperial.
Any other ideas? I'd like to use the stock width suspension which means I have to source out rims with more offset than the darn B4 items ...
Thanks in advance
Seb

duratrax nitro evader rear rims are supposed to be the same from what i've heard. and they come in some cool colors, too.

Re: Substitute for B2/B3 rear wheels
Hmm, but looking at the pic again it seems like they do have the smaller offset similar to AE and Losi ...

Crap!
Maybe I should force Siebenelch to redesign the old 9490 rims and source out a factory to produce them ...
EDIT: But the Nitro items seem to have a bigger offset?!

Re: Substitute for B2/B3 rear wheels
I think HPIs with a hexagon adapter might fit.
since the original axles are cones from bearing to threading you can use aluminum hex adapters with a cone inside that are basically wedged onto the axle, no need of a pin. I at first didn't trust that kind of setup but it really works. I have a couple of those adapters in various widths, therefore it is possible to fit abobout any wheel to the correct offset.
Try THIS and then goto page 116 (Seite 116)
I have some of those and they really work. All you might have to do is shim between bearing and hex adapter.
I dunno if these might also fit onto the B2 axles with the rollpin, prob not since tey're metric.

Sounds like an idea but finding the right HPI rims is not easy as they are discontinued too I think. Since I will order at Tower this week I order a set of those Duratrax Evader Nitr BX wheels to find out if they will fit.

I ordered a 2 sets of Evader BX wheels. I haven't picked them up yet, but I'll let you know for sure. They have Green, white, orange, yellow and blue i think.
I'll post pics once I get them home.

Re: Substitute for B2/B3 rear wheels
Minicooper, if you have access to OFNA CRT .5 wheels (Tower sells them) and the HPI hex adaptors, they are perfect (well damn close). Here is a picture of the 2.2 wheels with Pather Puma tires installed on my RC10 buggy...

Re: Substitute for B2/B3 rear wheels
Thanks dude.
I had the same idea the other night.
CRT.5 wheels are available in yellow and white and would match just perfect with the front wheels.
I ordered one set of the duratrax wheels nitro wheels now. Maybe they fit, maybe not. Then the CRT.5 items are next on my list!

Hey Michael, no Sebastian
, 2.2" HPI wheels and rear plastic hex adapters are still available from Tower , I ordered several sets last month and they work perfectly! Cheap and easy!

Re: Substitute for B2/B3 rear wheels
Thanks dude, but in this case it was me (Sebastian) that was asking ...
Anyway, since a couple of days ago I placed an order at Tower I will wait and see how the Duratrax items will turn out. Maybe they will work and solve our problems. Or Michael is faster with his longer upper arms and we can use B4/Losi items on the rear. Or I try and copy Jason's "Klein arms" Graphite car? I dunno. So many ideas, so limited time (and money!
)
Damn!

Re: Substitute for B2/B3 rear wheels
This thread is very good...
I'm just wondering though... Can we find HPI star wheels for the front too? So far I haven't run out of front wheels but I'm close. What are the 2.2 options there? I mean something that matches with the rear....
