Re: Insane speed run build
I've always wanted to reproduce the graphics of the Sauber Mercedes Group C car on Lexan. It'd be a challenge.

Well that is not something that I'm willing to try. It was enough with the stripes on the Tamiya Ronnie LotusNomadRacer wrote: ↑Mon Nov 20, 2017 5:58 am I've always wanted to reproduce the graphics of the Sauber Mercedes Group C car on Lexan. It'd be a challenge.

I'm finaly done with the electronics on this car. Next up is the lovely step of applying decals to the chassis.

Re: Insane speed run build
Thank you! Same here, from the first time I read about Clausens record breaking 10Lss. I know this build isn't 100% correct, but I just wanted to have a tast off it and it has been really fun buildning it. Not to mention of all the research and learning under the way.
Thanks man, The motor is a Bud's 12T single. I might be able to give you some more info once back home from work.
Edit:
It's a Modified Legend series motor. Diamond-trued commutator, precision-spaced armature with Bud's "Da" brush.
It' been run in and dyno-tested. Bud's Modifieds are hand-wound and epoxied, have balanced and trued arms, and they've been run-in.

Some decals and wheels mounted. Still looking for suitable body, Composite Craft decals and the correct shrink wrap for the receiver battery pack. The wrap used here is matte in finish and too thick. Will also add a Novak on/off switch to the receiver pack.

Re: Insane speed run build
A small update on the car. Got hold of BRP #5520 threaded stub axles which is more in line with insane speed runs than standard axles with e-clips

Re: Insane speed run build
Okay it's been awhile since last update on this build and one reason is the Tamiya repro Merc body.
First of we have the cockpit (big ass camel hump) and then the width.
The body is 205mm wide and total width of the front end is 185mm and rear end 190mm.
I need your help guys with feedback on it. Is it go/no go?
Sorry for crappy pics.

Re: Insane speed run build
It is a rather tall cockpit, not sure of the areo downforce benefit. How about a Peugeot 905/b body?

Yeah.... need to find a AE Jaguar XJR or similar. Would need to know what bodies are era correct for a car from 91 to 94 except for the Associated body.NomadRacer wrote: ↑Sat Jan 06, 2018 11:02 am It is a rather tall cockpit, not sure of the areo downforce benefit. How about a Peugeot 905/b body?

Re: Insane speed run build
Most of the guys costomized their bodies. I'd cut that giant cockpit out and glue a flat piece into its place. Or add a flat piece with a really small cockpit from something else.

Re: Insane speed run build
I have taken a look at that option, but as the cockpit is so wide there will not be much left of the body to make anything decent of it.
I do not know if the RJ Speed 962 body will work as I dont know were the fins start at the back and it looks like the whole body is raised at the back for extra down force.

Re: Insane speed run build
Not much happening here.
I'm waiting on a AE Jaguar body (I will not comment on how expensive that was)
But!
It is now possible to order Composite craft decals at MCI. Click on link below.
