Insane speed run build
So I've had this idea of building a insane speed run car for a while.
I'm not sure where it will end up, but aiming for a -90 to -94 era car.
I just picked up this rc10ls and have accumilated part over a period of time. Allso have a nib composite craft chassis (12 cell) and lower and upper rear pod brace on the way.
Hoping that you all like this idea and pitch in when ever you feel like it.

Go for it, good luck! There are at least 4 other topic titles on this, if you search for "insane speed"...and that's just on RC10Talk. On other forums, usually it's people with a Traxxas Slash, though...
At least with a pan car and a good body, you'll be addressing one of the biggest issues, downforce.

I truly cant wait to see progress on this build
These cars were simple but fast, you just need some pretty nice flat pavement free of debris.
all these period correct goodies bring back so many memories.

It will not be a runner. I dont drive I build things

I didn't know that the model numbers was the amount of cells to be used. A PDI esc would be awesome. M5 was the sport spec about 250amps.
M1 was the racing spec. up too 600amps depending on model.

the 828 started in 1989 and went till 1994.
Barring that you will want a Turbo ZETA esc

I had the M5 lying around and Klausen used one in his 1991 10L. I was thinking of using 4/5 SCR 1.2v cells. (with the M5 = 12 cells)
The hard part is, what year different parts were used.
I'm using:
Composite craft chassis. Pod braces SS style. That will answer Phins "heads up". Not sure on production year.
TRC capped tires (Hamilton 1993)
4/5 SCR 1.2v (used in inasne cars 1991-1994)
I have 1700mah scrc cells but have not seen any Insane cars with "full size cells")
Novak M5 (1991-1995. Klausen 1991) will keep an eye open for a 828-HV or similar.
Not sure if to use tha dynamic strut front end as all documented cars in RCCA have the older front end set up.

Unless the diameter of them is too larger to fit in the chassis slots. They ran 900-1000 mah cells back then. I would assume they wouldn't be as large as a 2200.

Older block front end is the better choice for a speed run car....less slop makes it more stable and consistent. The dynamic front suspension is better at making rapid changes in direction but hopefully you won't be doing that.sandkil wrote: ↑Mon Oct 09, 2017 2:50 am I'm using:

Block suspension is also the correct choice if you want to age your car older than '93.
I was a bit surprised when I found out insane speed run cars started running brushless motors at least as far back as '94. There was an early Aveox motor + speed controller in an eBay lot a few months back that was tempting me with bad ideas.
