Hi all. Names Kevin. Same old story, into rc cars back in the day and have a renewed interest. Started with a Tamiya Hornet (tough car) and finally graduated to a RC-10. Thing is, when I got my rc10, there were only two options. The car with bushings in the tranny, and the one with bearings. I got the bearing car. Now reading up on stuff I see there a bunch of different types (gold pan, graphite, stealth, B4, etc.) I'm not sure what the hell I have anymore. My questions are: Are parts available like wheels, bodies, wings, etc? Do I have the 6 gear tranny? Is this car competetive anymore? Is my motor any good (tamiya technigold RX-540VZ)? I'd like to try racing but if the old dog can't keep up I won't. I'll try to post pics. Thanks for your time.
Another FNG with questions.

Re: Another FNG with questions.
Welcome to the board! Nice car.
Many parts, including the body and wing, are still available at towerhobbies and the local hobby shops. Wheels and tires will be more difficult for the rear than the front as the rear axle size on the old cars are different from the newer ones. You have a 6-gear trasnmission in there. I don't know much about that motor, but regardless of it's specs a modern motor will likely be much better overall.
With a lot of setup and preparation it is apparently possible to make the older cars competitive, however you would probably be better off time and cost wise restoring this one for old times sake and getting a modern b-4 for racing.

Welcome to the board.
Your car looks like what is known as a Championship Edition (or CE around here) going by the longer front arms and wheel style.
Of course it could have started out as a short arm car and been updated.

Re: Another FNG with questions.
That moter was Tamiyas top model in its glory days. Came stock with the bigwig.
Due to the special design of the head and brushes it's a real pain to maintain for a runner now.
You may catch a bit of money for it on e-bay.
wellcome!

Thanks everybody! Championship edition definately rings a bell. I did no updates to the car. As for the motor, I remember whoever had the "gold" motor was the fastest guy around! Times sure have changed. I have alot of catching up to do. Again thanks alot.
