Hi all. Names Kevin. Same old story, into rc cars back in the day and have a renewed interest. Started with a Tamiya Hornet (tough car) and finally graduated to a RC-10. Thing is, when I got my rc10, there were only two options. The car with bushings in the tranny, and the one with bearings. I got the bearing car. Now reading up on stuff I see there a bunch of different types (gold pan, graphite, stealth, B4, etc.) I'm not sure what the hell I have anymore. My questions are: Are parts available like wheels, bodies, wings, etc? Do I have the 6 gear tranny? Is this car competetive anymore? Is my motor any good (tamiya technigold RX-540VZ)? I'd like to try racing but if the old dog can't keep up I won't. I'll try to post pics. Thanks for your time.
Welcome to the board! Nice car.
Many parts, including the body and wing, are still available at towerhobbies and the local hobby shops. Wheels and tires will be more difficult for the rear than the front as the rear axle size on the old cars are different from the newer ones. You have a 6-gear trasnmission in there. I don't know much about that motor, but regardless of it's specs a modern motor will likely be much better overall.
With a lot of setup and preparation it is apparently possible to make the older cars competitive, however you would probably be better off time and cost wise restoring this one for old times sake and getting a modern b-4 for racing.
That moter was Tamiyas top model in its glory days. Came stock with the bigwig.
Due to the special design of the head and brushes it's a real pain to maintain for a runner now.
You may catch a bit of money for it on e-bay.
wellcome!
Thanks everybody! Championship edition definately rings a bell. I did no updates to the car. As for the motor, I remember whoever had the "gold" motor was the fastest guy around! Times sure have changed. I have alot of catching up to do. Again thanks alot.
Hi guys. I've been a lurker for over a year now and registered just a few months ago. I originally got into RC back in the early '90s, but the bug has bitten again and hard.
Hey all,
Im a new guy here an have been reading up on the First 25 years of RC10 and there is a wealth of info here. I'm new to this and I am interested in collecting, restoring vintage rc cars, maybe some trucks and run some that aren't worth...

I have my eBay acct and PayPal set... Now I just need to win the lottery.
Been working on a B2 I picked up just have a few questions.
Did all the B2's have the skinny rear chassis plate or did late versions come with the extended 9241 plates? I have a Late B2 but it has the 9241 rear chassis plate with the updated 9267...

maybe your car had the b3 conversion installed. or, worn out parts were just replaced.
i don't know off hand what all came in those conversion kits.
Here's a pic of a sealed B2-to-B3 conversion currently on ebay if it helps:
So I want to change the battery placement on my gold pan from being across the body to run with the body. Now i can make that happen with out issue but the futuba esc i have that mounts the same as the steering servo has no place to go that can...

The motor mount looks like a custom job (rather crude compared to the other parts). For the top shock mount, I think it exists in blue as an option.
My Jrx2 build is coming on, but always seem to be searching for parts! The original short chassis is proving to be a big challenge but I will have to be patient. In the meantime please can you help me with a few question...

DS is kinda unique there. You could use standard axles and DS bones. You may also be able to source some CVD type axles, but it would have to be a mix and match gamble kind of thing. maybe a TC3 or NTC3 something might be a usable source. I think...
