Rere Plastic shocks!!!

I have just built a worlds rere, you guys prepared me well: I had new top shaft on hand; Idle gear; USA tranny case; even an 8-32 tap for bell crank nuts.

What I was not ready for where "Plastic shocks!!!"

I assume all modern cars have them.

What am I doing wrong the springs rub, I have had to spin them endlessly to find a quiter position. Any ideas?

Does classic rere have plastic shocks too?

No the shock bodies

Um.. My World's Car came with aluminum bodies and horrible composite caps. I had to ream out those shock caps with progressively larger allen wrenches before I could get the screw in... I then bled the shock like I used to without bleeder caps >.<

The cap screws where a PITA, 3 went in after switching to a allen driver. One went in a little twisted and would not seat properly, had to seal it with threadlock.

Haven't checked my kit but I'd be PO'ed if they were plastic.

That's a fluke - talk to AE and they'll make you whole

At a simple glance they are the same color as the team car teflon coated shocks.
Touch them and they weigh half as much and are warm. the aluminum shocks always feel cold.

I highly doubt the bodies are plastic. The top and bottom caps are, but not the bodies.

I thought you meant you had some cheap black-ish plastic cylinders...

I wouldn't think they'd be able to get the same visual finish as the old team shocks with some kind of composite material underneath.

If you have a teflon-like set of plastic ones - keep them. They're collector-grade material!

They just can't be plastic! I don't even think AE ever made plasic shock bodies. Now one thing is for sure IMHO: the real vintage teflon shocks with alu caps are the smoothest and the most reliable ever produced by AE. Also remember it's made in China. To me a re-re will never feel like the real deal. Plus you can find a very good "real" second hand RC10 for the same price, if not cheaper, as a re-re one. I reckon a nice Worlds car is nowadays difficult or pricey to find though.

The first one I remember with composite bodies is the TC3 racer kit. Then they also used them as the center shock on some pan cars.

The threaded worlds shocks did not impress me much but mine were always aluminum. Never seen plastic on the rere. I was not happy with the clicking of the springs on the threaded body.

Hey , I'm wrong!

I scratched the bottom edge with a hobby knife, and they certainly look like metal.

Does anyone know how to center the springs so that they dont bind?
I put some vintage silver springs in the rear and they seem a little better.

The springs always rubbed on AE shocks. It's just that you can hear it on threaded ones.

Big bore spacers and springs are the only way I have heard. Stocks diameter springs will click
