Fit, yes. Offset correctly, no.
I have ordered a pair of the traxxas 7171 2.2 wheels and I'm told they are correct offset. I'll let you know when they arrive. They are supposedly the correct offset.

Re: Optima is back!!
Just so everyone knows what a 7171 wheel looks like:

Those aren't so bad, I could deal with that. Looks like an RC10 wheel with a deep hole.

*Totally* forgot how intricate these were, and how time consuming they are to assemble. Jeez.
I went with the belt version, since I'm going to actually attempt to run it at the track. We'll see how well that goes with brushless power and lipo.

Re: Optima is back!!
Just an observation here, if it hasn't already been made.........some hardpack lipos won't fit between the chain guides, lower rails, and upper battery holders. I only tried two packs so far, one fit, one didn't, and the one that didn't fit is a common brand, the one that fit is an off-brand.
Also, the tires make your house really stink, put them in a plastic ziplock before your significant other gets all bent out of shape due to the smell.

Yes, those Traxxas wheels fit. I have used them on both Tomahawk and Optima runners. They make the car just a tiny bit wider, which in my opinion is a bonus....GoMachV wrote:Fit, yes. Offset correctly, no.

But there are also more interesting 2.2 wheels that should fit.

Re: Optima is back!!
I don't think it matters...with the directional wheels, it's personal preference whether the spokes are "clawed forward" or "swept back", as long as all four are positioned the same. It looks goofy however if some of the spokes go one way and some go the other way. I personally prefer the "swept back" position for the wheels.TomEG wrote:You have your wheels on the wrong sides....yellowdatsun wrote:[/url]
I also agree that the Optima benefits performance-wise from a slightly wider track width, as it has (had, at least) a tendency to understeer on acceleration.

Re: Optima is back!!
A friend of mine once had a 1:1 Ford Escort RS Turbo. It came with wheels not unlike the design of the Optima wheels, only the spokes on all four wheels were slanted the same way. So on the right side they were facing backwards like on the box art Optima, but on the left side the spokes were slanted forwards. It always bothered me. Just google "Ford Escort RS Turbo" and you'll see what I mean. It looks really weird.

Re: Optima is back!!
Hard to tell in the pic, but it looks like there is more than one decal sheet?
Also appears all the blue is stickers now, is it much easier to do the box art scheme now?
How close is the body to the original, might be worth getting a new body for my gold celebration chassis build if its still "correct"

I have always liked the tops pointing forward. Real cars, RC cars, doesn't matter. They look odd to me pointing backwards, as not being as aggressive.

All of the "paint", aside from the white, are stickers. Just mask the windows, and paint it white, the rest is stickers.
