Optima Mid brought back from the dead(24yearsin Mom's attic)

Post by Optimusprime »

Its crazy the things I did to this car back then. Had painted the top plate, chassis, wheels, and don't forget to check out the custom front body mount. (At some point it was a monster truck.) I believe thats solder wire on the posts, and the always classic white tie strap on the steering. Having said that, I would have to say that I find it it fascinating when I purchase old beat up RCs for restoration, and see the work that was done on them years ago.

First the bad...

How very cool to be able to work on your old rc buddy! Your in luck, as mid parts are not hard to find. It would be interesting if you could show US what all you did to it 24 years ago. Like you, I also find it interesting to see the story behind each old rc I get working on.

You think that body mount is bad? I think what I did to my original Optima is worse.

Yeah! Now thats hard core. I remember my first rc. The only way I could keep it running was to make my own little bits and fix with glue and screws what I could. The Local HobbyShop didnt carry parts, and mom wouldnt let me order from tower every 3 days. We do what we have to eh.

I will be posting some more pictures later on today and I think you guys would like them, but in the meantime, this is going to be my next built. An all white (off white  ) optima mid super light JG edition. JWSCAB is going to hook me up by trimming the white belt from sdp si to the right width
Thank you

That looks like it'll be different! As far as obtaining white arms, you'll probably need to meet the requirements for B/S/T access first.

Thanx for the info Coelacanth. I just joined the other day so I wasn't aware of the B S T requirement.

After hours upon hours of hard work its finally coming together. This would have to be the most special built for me because its the actual first RC car that I owned at 13. I used all the original parts I had even if I had to repair them.

Your old mid cleaned up real nice.. always fun rebuilding a childhood toy that gave you tons of smiles.. did the same thing for my old grasshopper which I gave to my nephew for christmas.. hoping that it gives him as many smiles as it gave me.. enjoy it.. it did come out great..

I used the TAMIYA Avante spike tires and a cool looking aluminum bumper from ebay for a meaner look. What do you guys think?

Thanks for the compliment.. I always wanted a yz10 when I was a kid and now I have three of them with only that one mostly done (870c body needs paint).. getting odds and ends for the next one.. and the last one a Works 93 needs a bunch of parts but it will get done one day..

Your mid is coming along great! I like it.. I admit that the tamiya tires look good and they are pretty easy to find.. I like the bumper too.. small and fits in with the other metal on the mid.. simple and clean.. good work.. now you just need a shell to top it off..
