Re: Bringing Back The Fun, Version 2
That video clip is too funny....
Pics....
It looks like the poor thing has been in a flood, but surprisingly seems to be in reasonable shape underneath. It will take a lot of work but should look good when finished, perfect for a period race truck runner. It looks like it was a race truck at one stage. My goal is to keep this as original as possible with vintage parts. I may only use a re-re battery cup, gear cover, and possibly a rear bulkhead depending.

Re: Bringing Back The Fun, Version 2
I was wondering where that went...
Look forward to seeing what you do with it!

Re: Bringing Back The Fun, Version 2
Already stripped down and soaking in a tub of hot water. The chassis on the other hand will take a bit of work to bring back up to scratch. I may need some more acetone to remove all the old tape and gunk.

Re: Bringing Back The Fun, Version 2
After what feels like countless hours of soaking I managed to remove all the glue and tape. There was some sort of chassis protector material baked on the chassis, it was harder to get off than 20 year old duct tape !!!
Also, after a lot of careful bending I got the chassis pretty darn straight which I'm happy about. It was pretty banana'd.
So far so good...

Re: Bringing Back The Fun, Version 2
I've cleaned the nylon and started putting the truck back together. I've drilled the original chassis for lipo, cut out the bottom of the original bulkhead and cut down a new battery cup. So far I'm not really feeling this truck compared to the other one but we'll see what happens as it progresses.
I'm not sure what to do for the battery strap, leave it stock or use the fiberglass battery strap.

Making progress. The ball cups and Technacrafts cleaned up really well, it's almost a shame to use them on this.

Here's where I'm up to at the moment, it's coming along nicely I think. I decided to go with the fiberglass strap to keep it somewhere between Lett and Pavidis 10T's.

It never ceases to amaze me what you guys can do to an old vehicle to bring it back to life! I just don't have the patience. I would have dusted it off lightly, slapped some new rubber on it and gone out driving that sucker!
Looks great - can't wait to see the rest of the updates

Re: Bringing Back The Fun, Version 2
Thanks guys, it's not perfect by any means but has cleaned up much better then I thought it would.
I finished the trans and installed it in the truck, the diff was completely rebuilt, bearings cleaned, used a new 85T spur and put in a new slipper disk (luckily I had a spare, but it's my last
). I also cut down the motor plate a little bit more and used a new gear cover. The carbon trans brace is pretty cool, I wonder who it's made by? It's much thinner than the AE carbon braces. Another interesting note is that the felt seal has been cut down into a tiny seal nestled between the top two trans posts, clever as it's not something that I've seen before.
So far the only re-re parts used are the battery cup, strap, servo posts and gear cover, everything else is original. I wanted to use original servo posts but all my spares are pretty rough. Cliff and Mark glued their servo's down but I've never been a fan of that method.
