Hi all! here's my ride

Post by BTracer »

Long time lurker, first time posting. Anyway here's my ride. It started off as a completely red dyed car. Been slowly converting it to a more traditional looking one. Not sure if I got the pics correctly posted, but here we go.

Thanks for the compliments. The photos came out a lot more grainy than I thought they would. Any pointers to improve on them in the future? One of the things that I wanted to do with this car was strip off the anodizing and polish it to give the car that vintage coke can look.

Actually I already started on another chassis. It looks like someone went to town and left it for dead on this one.

After a little bit of elbow grease and a mock up. The main chassis is horribly pitted. I think I left the oven cleaner on too long.

Some progress. I never knew polishing out a chassis was so much work...

Thanks. I think I'll clear it eventually, still got a lot of polishing to do, though. The belly and the left side are still pretty rough. So far I've taken off a bunch of material from the bottom to try to get the pits out. The countersunk screws are starting to not sit flush. I guess that's one way to lighten the chassis

Here's my ride (update)

Well I've offically abandoned the coke can car and moved on. My fingers just couldn't take the sanding. :( -too many pits in the aluminum. Maybe I'll pick it up again later in life when I can afford the wonders of machine sanding (in other words, a dremel). Recently I picked up a nice lot of rc10s. After a bit of sifting through the parts, here's what I came up with.

It's far from being a mint/correct World's car, but I can live with it. The previous owner did a great job of milling parts of the chassis and on the paint.
