that was my thought when I recently picked one up, I thought it would be an interesting car for a vonats classic racer, being held on high grip indoor clay nowadays.

Not sure about modern wheels but aren't most 12mm these days? Front is compatible with a associated tq wheel with 5/16 bearing, not sure if anything uses that still tho

You could use Rocky knuckles to run hex wheels up front.

The Kyosho Optima is the car that invented the 12mm hex that's become a standard wheel fixing. The difference is that they fitted on a tapered shaft rather than using a cross pin.

True, but the ones with holes in the axles bitd tended to break at said hole also. I never had much trouble with the taper systems
