6-gear diff lube

Post by Saito »

Will Stealth diff lube be safe to use on the original 6-gear ball diff? Thanks.

I often wondered the same thing, I think it should be fine, or even better.

Yes, Stealth diff lube is just silicone grease which can be used in any ball diff.

I was also wondering if anyone has used something other than diff lube?
I have a tube NAPA Sil-Glyde, it's a silicone lube that won't melt or gum up. I've used it on the back of brake pads so I know it can take the heat :)
I ask because I've often wondered do you have to use "diff" lube or any type of silicone based grease. The NAPA stuff seems to be working ok.

Well, for what it's worth Associated tells you not to use stealth diff lube on pan car diffs. The RC10 uses balls and rings from pan cars.

I'd think the pressures would be higher in the buggy and must admit I use stealth diff lube on mine.

I was thinking the same thing. I only use stealth diff lube in stealth transmissions.

6636 is what comes in the pan car kits. 6591 for stealth diffs.

could be because of the 1/8 diff balls in the pan car/6 gear vs. 3/32 in the stealth trans. i know i've used the stealth lube in my pan cars already and can't say i ever had a problem. not the other way around though....

My guess for the 6636 or 6951 is due to 1/8 chrome steel balls or 3/32 carbide balls, different materials.

1/8 chrome steel balls need changing out quite often and can develop flat spots, the 3/32 carbide balls basically last forever.

I'm bumping this old thread because I just rebuild the diffs in both of my Rc10s and I accidentally used 6591 in both of them (instead of 6636 in the 6 gear.) My 6 gear diff has 1/8 carbide balls in it vs. the stock, and the PB-10 had steel 3/32 balls (Scr8p, I presume that's what you put in when you originally built it?)
I've always used the 6636 grease before on the 6 gear and I think it's smoother with the 6591. The PB-10 seems fine with steel balls, though I might replace them with carbide balls next time I'm in there.
. . . you have Associated Green Slime for brains. And not even new Green Slime, but old gooped out Green Slime.

For some reason I thought carbide diff balls were black, and assumed that the silver ones were steel. I just looked at some pictures and saw that they're silver.
Sorry.
The diff balls in my 6 gear are black. Thinking back on it those might be ceramic.
