Extreme R/C Raceway in Springhill, Tennessee
Matthew Stevens is the proprietor of Extreme Hobby Shop in Spring Hill, TN. When he had the urge to build a track to compliment the store, he enlisted my help. We came up with an indoor carpet off-road racing facility. Middle TN was rather anemic as far as RC racing goes, and we wanted to make an attractive option for those in the area to enjoy!
Spring Hill is a growing suburb of Nashville, a friendly, safe area. We built the track at the old UAW gym, now known as Olympus gym. It is built on the full size indoor basketball court and has a footprint of 80'X50'. Carpet is used for very consistent traction and all of the jumps are wood fabricated and covered with an ultra tough paper machine felt. The facility is temperature controlled, so racing comfortably anytime of year no matter what the weather is doing is possible! Lighting is perfect, PA system is awesome, and an AMB timing system with RC scoring pro is used for timing.
We are holding our second race this Sunday, Feb 8th, and plan on running every other Sunday form here on out. We are working on a website to display all the info, but for now you can go to Extreme Hobby Shop on Facebook and get all the info there.
We have a vintage class! Adhering to the same rules that everyone has grown accustomed to for the VONATS. I ran my Worlds Rere RC10 the weekend before last and had a ball. The traction is awesome, and best of all, no cleaning tires or buggies between heats.
We typically run 2 heats and mains, but if time allows, we try to fit in 3 qualifiers. Open at 11:00 AM. Sign ups cut off at 12:30, racing starts at 1:00. So if you're in the area, please stop by and join us in the fun!

Actually, I ran my Worlds buggy, the same setup I used at the last Vonats, and it cleared everything perfectly!
We have found that a 17.5 equipped B5M is an excellent choice. Clears everything fine, very controllable.

You might not hit the down ramp but you'd make the tabletop easy.
We had our second race this last Sunday, 70 entries total! 5 2wd buggies in vintage class. People are coming around to the idea...

Nice, and I like indoor tracks, no cleaning the car during and after the race!

I MUCH prefer the carpet as opposed to dirt. Always traction everywhere and way easier to clean your cars. The downside is the crashes usually do more damage!

Re: Extreme R/C Raceway in Springhill, Tennessee
Well, we had our 3rd race this last Sunday. I was a little worried about turnout due to the inclement weather we've had all week. Ended up with 79 entries! Our Novice (under 16) class was stacked, 18 entries in that class alone! 5 buggies in the vintage class, and I know we have at least 3 more that are going to run once they saw what they could do!

We had our 5th race this last Sunday. Ended up with 92 entries! Up to 9 buggies in the vintage class!
Re: Extreme R/C Raceway in Springhill, Tennessee
I've run at this track a few times. Couldn't ask for a better group to race with. I can't imagine racing vintage on anything but carpet. These old cars can be hard to get parts for and without the dirt, the wear is minimal. After blowing off the carpet fuzz, my cars look as good as new.
You can see the results from the races here: http://live.liverc.com/558-Extreme_RC_Raceway/
Plenty of vintage action going on.
