Hey all yoke peeps, need a answer on this topic. I am sure its covered somewhere else on the forum but I need to know which rims from the 870-94 YZ10 can be dunked in acetone, so realistically which rims are nylon and which are plastic. I know this is a rather vague statement as there are many types/brands of rims but info on the standard rims will help first of all...any info or links greatly appreciated.
I also have JC Racing rims as wheel but I am sure they are nylon as they are fairly recent and don't have the cheep look...not that that means anything.
SO I have tried pretty much a lot of rims from 870-94 + Jc racing rims and all came up ok. I have a set in their now which are black spoked rims and I think were fairly hard to get so I hope they come up ok....
I have some Losi 2.0 spoked rims from the JRX2 which I want to use. So far I have stripped glued tyres from the red version rims with no problems but from memory was it the orange or the yellow that melt in acetone?

Yeah...DO NOT put the light orange wheels in acetone. I learned that one the hard way a couple weeks ago...completely cooked a set of original wheels from my old car. I had some darker orange wheels in the same tub and they were fine...just the...
They say that they are nylon - but sure feel like plastic to me. My question is has anyone tryed to dye these wheels a different color ?? How did they turn out if some one has ??

I did read that somewhere since I posted here that some of the rims take dye. I can say that the white ones I had didn't take them at all but the blue and the green ones don't look shiny like the whites and yellows do. As far as painting them I...
I have used acetone on NYLON rims many times to remove glued tires and it works great. Now the question is will it work on anodized aluminum rims. That I have not tried yet .
I have a set of b3 sport rims that I want to use on another project. I have heard that acetone will break down the glue. What about the acetone effecting the rims I think they are nylon . Im not looking to save the tires just the rims.

I like your idea I will give it a try and keep my fingres crossed . Juts to add, the wheels don't need to be submerged in the acetone, the fumes do the majority of the work. Pour an inch or two into the bottom and put something in there (brick or...
We all know the trick to remove old tires from wheels. BUT ... has anyone raced with the tires after a soak in acetone? Are they still usable? Will traction compound reverse the effects of acetone? Am I being too cheap?
I ask because I have some...

Most of the time Acetone will damage the tire It may still be useable, but the acetone leaches out the lubricants in the tire and will eventually cause it to be harder. The trick is to use just enought to soften the tire without damaging it. Usually...
Just wanted to share with everyone and not that I doubted any of you, but Acetone does work to remove epoxy from graphite chassis plates. I had three Losi JRX2 chassis plates that now look as good as new after a bath in Acetone (I should have taken...

Who doesn't love a nice pint of Acetone, of an evening. It sure helps me unwind :D
I have some dyed wheels and want to removed the tyres that have been superglued on. My usual method is to leave them in Acetone for 24hrs, but was wondering as these wheels were dyed, will the acetone affect the dye.

Thanks.
Strange how we overlook the simple solutions, will give that a try.
Has anyone tried soaking a vintage Yokomo chassis in acetone to remove superglue?
My 870c chassis could do with a cleanup but I'm not sure if it would have any negative affect on the GRP material?
Wouldn't want it to delaminate or do anything silly!
