zaboon : baboon or jewel in the mud?

Does anybody have experience running the zaboon? Waht's the car like quality-wise? And how hard are parts to find?

I'd like an axle driven 4WD and am considering this one

Pretty sure zaboon is closely related to the fazer ep shaft driven rally car, and the newer fazer buggy,, so there might be some parts still available.

My main worries are the spur and motormount.
The first one missing a slipper and second one being made of plastic... predicts lots of stripped spurs and I don't think it can be replaced with a more general available one?

Searching Kyosho USA's site shows that the onroad Fazer has an alloy motor mount:

Also, the EP Kobra based on the same chassis has slipper parts available.

I think this would be a fun car to mod and mess around with. Are you buying a new one or something used?

I´d look elsewhere, unless You´re going 540 mabuchi - It´s going to be a mayhem of stripped diff gears, I think.
Perhaps with the right shimming it could last a couple of packs

I saw one on the bay but didn't ask for for an exception to ship international yet.
The set of rear arms I have for it looks to be of a comparable quality to the ultima , optima mid etc, but never coul even find matching fronts. The part numbers start with ae and are used for a set of incompatible vehicles.
On the other hand I saw an academy sb sport too, but I think my brain has taken over again and I'll leave it and focus on the cars I have for now.

If the urge becomes too strong some day I'll find a cheap modern shaftdrive like the ftx vantage (pro).
Yes, I know the one on hobbyking is dirt cheap and mostly the same.

good suggestion. I'm not into readysets though: need a stick radio and like most of us I guess I just like hunting for a bargain on a used car.

Even plain first gen zx5 are cheap now. Not quite vintage,, but getting there. I think a zaboon or phazer or cobra buggy would be a great runner project though.

I 'm gonna look around for a manual. The seller already agreed to ship to belgium and the price is stil rock-bottom. I may still throw in a last minute low-ball offer

Its a baboon, used to sell them when I worked for ripmax, they were rubbish.
