RC10GT Electric conversion build. DONE!
RC10GT Electric conversion build. DONE!
Sorry no pics for post #1.
I've owned a Gold pan RC10 and RC10L since the mid 80's and now that that kid is old enough to move up from lame toy store trucks I went back to what I know.
I picked up a RC10GT off CL with an old AM Futaba and bad motor for $40. I plan to yard the old brushed ESC and motor from the RC10 buggy (it'll get a brushless upgrade later) and convert the GT to electric.
The kid is 8 so I didn't want it to be crazy fast or complicated so I chose to go brushed with NicCad packs so he can charge and drive on his own if he wants.
Then I won't have to worry about him over charging a lipo or running them too low.
So far I've ordered new tires, stock T3 body, 2 packs and a Flysky 2.4gig radio. Not exactly a big bucks build but good for the kid compared to his slow as hell Toy's R US Hummer.
What are my best options for motor mounts? I'm looking at what I can do with either a a TC5 or B4 motor mount.
I know with the TC5 mount I'll need to add a brace to keep the gear mesh in check.
Thanks in Advance.. I'll try and get some pics of my cars.

Re: RC10GT Electric conversion build.
I'm having the hardest time finding it right now but its usually on eBay. This is by far the easiest mount to go electric on an RC10GT trans. I'm sure he has more here's his contact.

He must have just re-listed. Mount ordered.. He's already listed another if someone else needs it.

Re: RC10GT Electric conversion build.
Feeling stupid today and got a lesson on modern tire sizes.
The new Traxxas 6870R Kumho Tires arrived yesterday and to my amazement I can't mount them on the GT rims because I ordered 2.2/3.0 tires..
I understand the how and why of it all.. Just annoyed.
Now I get to decide if I want to drop another $40 on parts and 2.2/3.0 hex rims to do a hex conversion or get different tires.

Re: RC10GT Electric conversion build.
Time to get started stripping this dirty girl..
Here's the GT next to my Gold pan

I broke out the RC10L for a couple group pictures.
I need to get some bodies for these old cars.

Re: RC10GT Electric conversion build.
Clean looking truck to start with. Gotta bend that nose piece bumper back down though. That's one of those things I always notice.
Re: RC10GT Electric conversion build.
I wonder if I should swap out the MIP stinger rear shock tower for a stock tower.
I'm also thinking of breaking out the 12k biaxial carbon and making a new pan for it.. I'm not sure if I feel like going that crazy with it just yet.
Thanks for the bumper tip.

Re: RC10GT Electric conversion build.
Aother day and another question..
Not thinking I ordered a #6139 T3 body.
Will that clear the rear shock towers or do I need to find a GT body?
I'm also giving some thought to just laying up a stretch carbon chassis and throwing a SC body on it.

Re: RC10GT Electric conversion build.
The shock humps are in the wrong spot on the T3 compared to your chassis. You can modify your mounts or trim the body and make it work. Or get a GT body. Just depends on the final look you want to achieve.

Re: RC10GT Electric conversion build.
The T4 is a motor behind the tower truck like all the other electric truck. Whether the body will be close or work is another story.
Re: RC10GT Electric conversion build.
Well that sucks.. I guess my Gold pan just got a new body.
Back to parts shopping.

Re: RC10GT Electric conversion build.
One of the members recently discovered this body is a near identicle match to the original GT body. This would work on your current rear tower but if you changed to the newer wider rear tower you would have to trim the tower. Great deal too.
