front bulk heads again. Got me a weird one.
I recently got 2 front bulk heads for old school yokomo off ebay. Both are the familiar alloy kind that went from 870c to early 90s models. I know one of them is a magnesium unit, because it looks and feels like all the other mag types I have handled. The other is not magnesium, and its not machined aluminum either. Its definitely alloy, probably aluminum, but its cast just like the mag ones. A magnesium front bulkhead I weighed comes in at 27 grams. This cast alloy one comes in at 41 grams. Its more shiny, than the mag ones, but still has that obvious cast finish.
No big deal,, its otherwize identical to the cast mag bulk heads. Just wondering if the Yokomo gurus can shed some history on possibly running changes in production? Were certain models speced out with a cast aluminum bulk head for greater durability?

From the New IN packages ones i just bought, the aluminum ones (header tag even said aluminum) look just like my magnesium ones, have to look real close to them. I think 91 models came with aluminum, or 92 or 93. BUt they had a slightly different part number and packaged in spare pack accordingly

Yeah, Ive got all except the correct ball ends and tie rods,, unless 870c bits will work. If thats the case,, then yes! If not,, then it will use aftermarket generic turn buckle tie rods, and probably a mix of traxxas and kyosho zx5 style ball ends. I really like the traxxas and kyo ball ends,, very robust, smooth, and allow massive travel without binding or popping off. Plus, they are cheap and easy to find.
Really pleased to have gotten this aluminum front end. It should shine up great!
