My field trip to Lunsford today!

Post by GoMachV »

I took a trip down to Lunsford today. He is only about 90 minutes from my house. I have spoke with him but never met him until today. I walked in and was overwhelmed by Kelly. I heard lots of great stories and also cleared up a lot of details about my A-Main Bullet project. Turns out he is going to make some contact for me, thinks there are a few cars left and enough to build a few too!

My main goal today was to have a part number assigned to a group of hinge pins and turnbuckles for the stealth cars, so when people call in they can order them easily. He has a bunch of new-old stock, pre-punisher style. Bags and bags.

New style 3mm, 3.5mm, 4mm, and on and on

But what he brought out of the back room....very cool!
Check out the rc10, they cut the sides, trimmed the aluminum screws on a lathe, filed the front edge of the chassis, and anodized it a dark purple

Next up is a titanium chassis he kept, from the very early days just playing around.

You wouldn't believe how light it was

you guys will like this. MIP SP-2 I think, with a lot gong on. It has a front diff as well as one ways in the wheels ala yokomo. Front tower is titanium  Pretty stout considering its thinness

Are titanium RC accessories all they do or is Lundsford a side business?

all titanium but they work in other industries as well. RC is the primary industry. Its very much a mom and pops shop, pretty small and laid back. His Swiss machine is only for small parts, but they do it all in house.

I'm diggin' that decorative furniture hinge at the rear shock tower.

That said, that 4WD design is a whole lot better-engineered than the other aftermarket kludges I've seen, that sell for huge dough these days...
Completed projects: CYANide Onroad Optima | Zebra Gold Optima | Barney Optima | OptiMutt RWD Mid
Gallery - Coel's Stalls: Marui Galaxy & Shogun Resto-Mods | FrankenBuff AYK Buffalo | 1987 Buick GNX RC12L3

I guess the market for titanium hinges didnt take off

Kelly is one of us. He is very detail oriented, and appreciated how things were. The cars of today are "Harbor Freight cars". Of course they still need good hardware....so he can help that part out. His billet titanium screws are unreal! Not the cheap grade 2 found elsewhere.
