DS build question

Post by tommy2c »

I have a DS Racer's kit I'm building from NIB. After building the tranny I have these 2 plastic washers left but I don't know where they're used and can't find them in the manual. I also ended up with an extra locknut. The washers measure 1/8" ID x 1/4" OD x 1/16" thick. Any help?

The nut looks gold which means it's a slipper nut (5-40 thread)
The plastic washers look like what is used with dogbones in the outdrives. With universals they are not used.

They could potentially be shock spacers too right?

I was putting the parts bags away after I completed each section and these spacers and nut were leftover from the bags involved with building the tranny.

I had all the shock spacers needed when I got to those bags. Plus they are 1/32" thick in this kit.

I went back and checked the manual and it doesn't show the spacers when using dogbones either.

I thought maybe they were spacers for between the bulkhead and tranny brace. However the manual doesn't show to use them there and it doesn't look they they're needed anyway. The brace is level.

You got to love this forum for all the knowledge available and provided by members.

I've never had the pleasure of building a NIB DS or NDS for that matter, so this is good to know when I decided to open the one I have. its a racer kit so I would have been in the same situation.

Thanks gomachv!

By the way...I wasn't aware that the qualifier kit lacks a slipper clutch until I got a few of them. Thanks Romulus22  for providing a slipper for a NDS project still in the works.

tommy2c, did your kit come with body? if not what body are you thinking of using? damn DS addiction is killing me

No body yet. Still looking into that and an HPI wheel conversion.
