£20 Bargain! Nice work Dan - BTW, who is 'Jamin Johnson' - the name in the window of the shell, hehehhee!!

I used to paint a fair few shells for other racers BITD, I always signed mine 'Jamin Paint', but on the underside.

Ben Johnson is a member of our local club in Kettering (not a drug taking 100m runner lol).... like many racers he has returned to the the hobby after previously being involved at a much younger age - he used to race with us & his nick-name was Ben-'Jamin' ..... probably the same reason it is your nickname :D I think when I first saw your username I wondered if indeed it was Ben Johnson... oddly it turns out I kinda knew you aswell!! :D

The blue (Jammin shelled!) Losi was his racer back in the 90s - selling it to me gave him some cash to put towards a very nice B4 that another club member is selling. Ben wants to get back into off road racing (Kettering although was born out of Burton Latimer 'buggy' club it now runs predominantly touring car racing) & I offered to re-build the XX so he could race it again.. but to be honest it just needs a bit too much to be financially viable.... but for me it could provide some usefull spare parts for my racer.

Bit of a refresh on the XX after a busy season of outdoor racing culmulating in being heavily used at a demonstration meeting that my local club organised at a car show for Japenese cars (JAE) - the full re-build included adding a new front bulkhead & gearbox housing (due to old bulkhead being broken & threaded hole in trans case) but the biggest visual change is the addition of a rather familiar shell (thank Ben! 8) ) along with a new LMR wing that I painted up to match (mounted with new blue Trinity wing buttons) - The LMR wings are moulded from super think Lexan, which is great for longevity but a right pain to trim up when new!

Now all ready for 2013's grass track racing season!

Looks cool Dan, hope you have as much fun with it next year too!!!

Have you plans to paint the xcelerator too? Or is that one for the shelf?

Thanks Ben... must admit your paint job & the trimming on the 'new' shell is so neat! I did notice that you had put a gold 'fleck' into the black paint... which I tried to re-create on the wing but with less success... still looks good though 8)

I actually have two un-painted Xcellerator shells now, one is destined for the new-build, which will be a shelfer, the 2nd is a spare for the future - i'll perhaps paint it up for the Kinwald runner sometime?

That looks great. Good to see more of these old racers being given a new lease of life (I guess that's applicable to many of the drivers as well as the cars LOL!).
Using my son as an excuse to relieve my youth.

Mmmm - whats going on here?

Image

Parts on the right are ear-marked for my new-build car that i'm intending to build up like my old car BITD (albit with some choice parts that I would have brought given the budget back then)... The parts on the left seem to be developing themselves into some other build... runner/new build show car - i'm not sure... I just keep buying parts!

You cant beat a massive stash of NIP parts, especially when there's a mk1 milled motor plate and old skool driveshafts in there!

I thought you already had a XX runner Dan? 2 is just plain greedy!!

I recognise some of those parts from eBay!

Unfortunately I lucked out on the standard Graphite chassis but (comes to his senses) I don't actually need one.

Neither did I! I just saw it advertised and hit BIN (kinda hoping it had the older 'Graphite' logo on the bottom face) Without really thinking... this was the first purchase of the many that you see in the photo...

I dont need another XX by a long shot... but the availability of parts has got my doubleX juices going & I fancy doing a build that doesn't involve breaking into my NIB kit quite yet :?

The availability of new parts is still somewhat surprising (to me at least) because just when you thought that your luck had run out.......<BAMM!> ......the hard to find or rare part that you didn't ever expect to see again shows up on eBay resulting in the instant use of the BIN. :?

That happened with me and my NIB Kinwald, I wasn't even looking it just so happened that my browser was on eBay when my mac returned from sleep, it refreshed the page automatically and there it sat in front of me, BIN, in the UK. Boom! it was mine. Talk about lucky!

Seeing all these Kinwalds around makes me wanna start it 8)
