I know it aint vintage, but I thought I'd share my M05 build.
A few years ago, Venom released a range of green anodised parts (blue also) for the Tamiya M05. I bought 2 sets, always intending to do a shelf build one day. The set I used on my race mini proved to be far inferior to the strength of genuine Tamiya alloy upgrades, so safe to say it was retired pretty quickly.
I always had my second set of Venom parts in mind, intending to do a special shelf build. Fast forward about 4 years, and Tamiya released the gold version of the M05 and I thought it would make a perfect pairing. Being a proud Australian, green and gold is our offical sporting colour combination for international competition.
Regarding the build, as I never intend to run the beast I didn't fill the pre-assembled shocks with any oil, and likewise refrained from greasing the diff or using any threadlock. I want to do a couple of finishing touches such as fitting adjustable front links (might go for metal rod ends) and also fit electrical gear. I have the Venom green brushless combo (rebadged Hobbywing Ezrun system) and will probably get an alloy cased servo (Turnigy make one that's pretty cheap). Lastly I'll try and paint a shell with the Australian flag in green and gold colours, but that won't be for awhile so meatime, enjoy the chassis pics.
Cheers,
Steve
