Mounting telemetry sensors questions

Post by mk-Zero »

I recently picked up a b44 roller and got an Airtronics mt4 telemetry radio and receiver for it. Has anyone mounted a speed sensor on a b44, I don't really see any good place to mount it, even if I make a little bracket? For the temperature sensor, how do you guys mount it to the motor? On the b44 the motor sits really low in a cut out in the chassis, I doubt there is room to put a zip tie around the motor. I guess I could notch the motor cutout in the chassis a little, but I would hate to do that if there is another clean solution.
Thanks in advance for any help 8)

Turns out there was enough room to get a zip tie around the motor, so I just zip tied the temp sensor to the motor. I think I figured out where I can put the speed sensor so it picks up off the front center drive cup. I'll post pics if I get it to work, on the off chance that anybody cares

BTW, in addition to the mt-4, I'm running a Reedy 7.5t and a Flow Works Team esc. Pretty quick little car, can't wait to get it on the track 8)

Got the speed sensor mounted. I ended up making an aluminum bracket that uses the two antenna mount holes and uses an o-ring and some fuel line to isolate the sensor from vibrations. Now if it were only anodized blue...

Here's the temp probe mounted, nothing fancy here

And here's the car

I've wanted to mount the speed sensor on my car. But I have a spektrum and I understood that it needs a light source and reflector or something to measure the speed. My temp sensor has a loop so it was easy to mount on the engine.

How does your speed sensor work? I love my B44, its so fast and stable.

The speed sensor is cool, it transmits what ever light it needs. The radio system came with reflective tape, I just put a little strip of it on the drive cup. Then you have to position the sensor to within about 1mm of the target. To calibrate it, you just measure the distance the car rolls for 10 revolutions of what ever the speed sensor is triggering off, then enter that distance in the radio! Done, speed in mph. On the bench right now with current gearing its registering 33 mph.
