I am going to set all electronics - for the 1/16 scale. Servos, ESC, battery and motor will all be smaller. I am panning to use the Traxxas 1/16 scale trucks 380 brushless motor, electronics and lipo battery, should have plenty of grunt and power. Considering the scorpion is a very light buggy even though it is 1/10, the 380 brushless should work beautifully and the buggy will be quite light.

I am going with this setup because I feel that the 380 motor is a really scale reference to the overall size of the buggy. The 540 can dwarfs the scorpions back. Take a look at the scale of the 1/7 scorpion and the relative size of motor to body size, it works very well doesn't it.

I am not saying that you should put a 380 in your 1/10th ride, but the idea sure works, brushless power - less heat, lightweight better performance. I have not tried it yet but this is the way I am going.

Yes progress gallop were the first 4wd ep buggy offering from Kyosho. Before that I think they had an ep 4wd chevy truck, and some nitro 4wds.

correct again 4ws. Extremely awsome complex buggies. Not very fast due to draggy drive train, and suspension is limited,, but a very dramatic and exciting ride! FUN!

I'd actually disagree with the "fun" part, regarding the driving of the Progress/Gallop. Even reviewers back then (I seem to remember reading one in RCCA about the Gallop) said that with the 4WS, the cars actually turned TOO good, you didn't get any of the fish-tailing and dirt rooster-tailing that you'd usually get with a non-4WS car...and that's the fun stuff.

I really enjoy the tight turning, noise, and drama from the little chunky pg cars. To me,, theyre the funnest of the not so fast racers.

The specs say it recommends a 30T-27T motor, do they have brushless motors that are within those specs? Most of the ones I have seen are 15T or less. Are you guys planning on going with a LiPo setup as well?

You can run a 17.5 in it without a prob. The tranny will probably handle even a 13.5 but the suspensions geometry will not handle the speed

I have a nice old LeMans 360ST that might get the nod. A little outside the recommendations (it's 22 turns, if I recall), but it just seems right.

Back in the day, I ran a 240st in a progress,, so surely this new scorpion can handle more power than that.

What motor the gearbox can handle isn’t the problem, gearing is. Its modern diff and slipper, so I think it can handle any motor, but there is only 6.9:1 and 8.3:1 gearing to choose between. Kyosho need to come up with an adjustable motor plate or someone else will.

I think there will be some hop-ups for the Scorpion from Kyosho depending on how many cars that get sold. I don’t think this is a limited edition, but I can be wrong.
Cheers

This is what I am concerned about. I would like to go with a modern power setup, but not something that will be to hard on the buggy. LiPo is appealing because you get more fun time though. I don't really know much about RC cars, so I will have to wait and see what some of you guys go with before making any purchases. I am anxious to get the buggy and assemble it though, I just hope it doesn't turn into a shelf queen (for me). I want to run it.
