My Staten Island Rocket restoration (early JRX2)

Picked this up a while back and have worked on it a little at a time, it is an early kit with the foam core chassis, motor plate was cut so hard to prove but likely a no stamp, and it has the early non reinforced plastics.

I have added the steering brace, and the diff has the Thorp metal center gears. Wheels are proline front and rear. I have some shocks for it, hopefully they clean up. Otherwise I have a matching no stamp motor plate and shocks being anodized blue, they may make it onto the car if they turn out well. My goal is just for an era correct build that could have been a racer, I'm not going for original box art

The biggest challenge will be the battery holder. It may get a rpm holder if I can make a plate to keep from drilling the fairly pristine chassis!

Nice start for your restoration/build.. partial to the jrx2 as mine was my old racer.. great little buggy.. the 5 link is a blast to drive..

Cracked trans case or am I just picking up a glint from the camera?

The case that was on it was cracked, this one isn't tho. (Your seeing the mark at the rear upper bolt area correct?) I will probably cut off the truck body mount section at some point

I finished up the roller but still need to locate some nice turnbuckles and ends

Looking good my friend! I really like the looks of the rear trailing arms on these. I should really starting looking for a decent roller, but some many projects. going on, but not as many as you!

I actually like the Losi rod ends onthe jrx2.. they hold really well and have free movement.. when I did the rebuild on mine, they were tough to remove and snaped back in and are still tough to remove.. Someone also liked the current losi ballcups as they were the best fitting ones.. forgot who though.. other wise rpm 4-40 ballcups work.. a little looser than the jrx2 parts though..

It will get original style, I agree and I like them very well! The hard part is finding them, and the ones on the car are pretty tore up actually.

All the ones I find are torn up, I'm slowly gathering decent ones but it is like 1 per every 2 rollers I find.

I found a no stamp motor plate but it needed refinishing. I also had some of the early shocks (not the collars tho) and they were also rough. I decided to toss them in with the batch of blue I ran a few weeks ago, and finally got them installed today along with some newer front ball ends. I still need to locate a battery holder, the hinge style don't seem to grow on trees! Lol

Only a little. I found a nice early uncut rear tower... I think that's all. I'll post up pics when I remember where I stashed it lol

Well... It seems I found a better early battery holder and forgot lol. Also a tbg body and wing. Other than that... Just dust hahaha
