Re: jconcepts detonator for rc10
Thanks gents. Yeah I would note two things about painting this particular body. First is that it has great detail in the roof and cab roll cage. Masking that up creatively, (ie giving it a metalic roof like I did), really brings out the buggy realism. And secondly if you pay attention to the body's angles (in a Foosish way if you watch overhaulin' at all
), and mask stripes that parrallel or complement the "A Pillar" everbody can't yet stomach, it really makes it easy on the eyes
.
I like this body more than a Protech or Viper, as each of those have this unrealistic "Cab Rearward" shape that works for a dragster but is unrealistic in anything you'd race off road, as there's no way the driver could see what is coming
. Note I come from the era when we put drivers in the cab, not numbers on the windows.
And the narrow cab means you don't have to saw out a whole entire shock width if you have the rear shocks layed down on inward holes. Fits real good, and it works with the tower-mounted wing mounts.

And lastly, I think thier Illuzion 6" wing (#107) actually works better (especially with wing mounts) than the 5.5" wing that comes with the body. The contour of it fits the cabs roofline perfectly.
OK, enough with the JC sales pitches. I gotta go mount me some aka's

That's the most flattering paint scheme I've seen for the body yet.
I so badly want to do stripes like that but the masking drives me nuts LOL

Re: jconcepts detonator for rc10
Thanks Steve. I personally just use the cut your own vinyl mask for the curves, with a few different sizes of masing tape stripes, layed down in the reverse order you will be painting color-wise. Kepp you hands washed, don't sweat, and don't sweat if it aint perfect. By no means is this one, but maybe it will inspire some of the really good painters out there. I just came up with this one while watching sports center.

I always thought the viper/protech/others looked about spot on for a two seater/single seater sand rail... Similar to the one I have but with the roll cage sheeted. A large amount of older sandrails have the 'unrealistic "Cab Rearward" shape'... it was one of the things that endeared me to the rc10 and other buggies back in the day

That's a good point. They are/were very vinatge sand rail-ish weren't they?clm wrote:I always thought the viper/protech/others looked about spot on for a two seater/single seater sand rail... Yes, considering there are only so many ways you can go with a buggy body for a car that has had so many variations, it really does grow on you. X2 on the paint scheme too.

Re: jconcepts detonator for rc10
I'm glad to see that the body is growing on some people. There are some guys that will never like it, and that's ok. I still say it looks better in person and mounted on the car. Maybe some of the guys that have them in hand can comment on that opinion.
The tires and wheels should be on the way to or at the distributors now. If your favorite retailer doesn't have them yet you can try going direct to JC by emailing them [email protected].
Finally, the really exciting part (for me anyway) is that some of the aluminum accessories are "very close". I hope to have some of the new stuff in hand within a week or two. I will share pics with you guys once the all clear is given. Some of the parts are more about fashion than function, but some of the parts are very functional as well as eye candy.
Larry at Kustomrcgraphics painted up a few more Detonators this week, including one for Maifield. I will try to post up pictures later unless someone beats me to it.

Re: jconcepts detonator for rc10
I have my Detonator in hand and while I like it, it is challenging to get a design that lays right. I have been sketching on my body all day and not liking what I design. My biggest problem is with the roof. It is so long, lol! Thankfully sharpies erase easily with a little rubbing alcohol on the overspray film. I have a design that looks awesome on a Viper body, but doesn't translate well to the Detonator. I think I need a break.
Brian, your car looks awesome!
The few paint schemes I have seen on this body all avoid the recessed area on the nose. maybe I should stay away from it too!

Re: jconcepts detonator for rc10
I ran my classic with the tires and wheels yesterday. The track was hard packed and blue grooved. The tire of choice for most cars is blue barcodes front and rear with profiled inserts. With how soft the tires are, especially the front tires, I was concerned that they would be too grippy and even roll over on the wheels. I was pleasantly surprised at how they performed. The car drove great and tire wear was very good. I think most everyone that runs the tires and wheels will be very happy.
Stay tuned for a new JConcepts product video this week. The video should highlight all of the parts that are in production like the wing mounts, nose tubes and steering system.
