First (Vintage?) Losi in my Collection - Junior2

Just picked up a Junior2 buggy(Some of you may have seen it on ebay), will hopefully see it soon (posting from USA to AUS) but the pics look good. (Will post them when it gets here)

Looking for advice and info about these buggies, I understand they were "Budget" or "Entry Level" at their release. What is it about them that made it so?
Is the gearbox weak, plastic weak etc, etc.

Any info appreciated

The Junior series from Losi in my opinion was the start of the high performance molded composite chassis racing kits. Prior to that high end racers would have looked at it and shunned it for not being graphite or fiberglass plate or aircraft grade aluminum. Those kits lead the way for the likes of the ProSE LXT Double X's and yes even the B2 and later.

What makes them entry level is basically bushings and shock towers, everything else on them were race quality. With the addition of bearings and a slipper they make very competitive buggies on par with the buggies of the era. You can also swap out the shock towers with Pro SE or LXT towers and add turnbuckles instead of the all-thread to finish the conversion to race vehicle. The LRM is a great transmission that can happily handle most of the motors you would race with now days with the only real weak spot being the drive shafts. Another member has found Traxxas Bandit driveshafts I believe can be slightly modified and end up even more durable.

Thanks for the Info Chris, The buggy really caught my eye when trolling through ebay, in particular it's stance I think.

I've downloaded a couple pics from the Ad, I think i'd like to do my own body/colour scheme, but other than that the buggy looks really clean, I plan on fitting some electronics (brushed motor/esc & 2.4ghz) so as it's in a running state, but not run it very hard. Anyway, here's some pics:

I saw that and thought that it looked great too - and very clean. However, if you're going to run it you might want to keep an eye on that chassis brace as there appears to be a small crack by one of the front mounting screws.

Yeah saw that too (although after I purchased it ) it'll look good on the shelf too

Nice almost too cherry to run. Id seal and air tight those wheels they could save your life one day if we're attacked by aliens....they would recognize their value and spare you.

That particular buggy was in fact owned by yours truly! There's actually a thread called "Lil Ol Jr.2" that I posted. I sold it about a month ago to jaybayrc. He put a new body and gear cover and swapped the springs, but other than that it's exactly the way it was when I had it! My advice for running it with anything more than a stock brushed motor would be to upgrade to a slipper to save that LRM tranny. You can find the part on ebay, and I think there's gotta be a thread on here about it. I actually had plans to put a retro xx tranny in that one, but moved on to other projects. Glad to see it ended up with a fellow rc10talker! Btw jaybay does good work on his rides so i'm sure it's still in tip-top shape!
